    Lightbulb Tiny sips.....Deep throat

Okay - from the comments I've seen mentioned and views on U-tube I need further clarification:

Tiny sips: is the reason due to not being able to drink much because of the newly sized stomach OR scratches due to the surgical instruments in your airway?

Eating: why does it take over an hour at times to eat?

Protein: Has anyone used the Ideal Protien products for pre-op and aftercare?

Thanks to all out there being so honest and open.

Because your throat is sore after surgery (you will be entubated during surgery). And you may have a hiatal hernia repaired. Double sore. Double swollen. And your stomach where the water is going into is LEETLE and SWOLLEN. Trust me, you'll understand when you're post-op. This is like sex. Or childbirth. Or getting stoned. Or boot camp. You just can't portray it fully for someone who hasn't gone through it yet.

Eating: why does it take over an hour at times to eat?

It doesn't. Always. It depends on how much you're eating. And how many days/weeks post-op when you're eating it.

Protein: Has anyone used the Ideal Protien products for pre-op and aftercare?

    Nope. Never heard of 'em.

Thanks to all out there being so honest and open.
    Best wishes to you.

I am jumping to very wrong ideas lately regarding forum thread titles...

Male, age 46, 6'1" tall. Starting BMI was 39 at 2 weeks pre-op. My weight loss chart.
    BMI=35 at 3 weeks post-op! BMI=30 at 15 weeks post-op! BMI=25 at 9 months post-op!
Reached ultimate goal within 5 months of surgery: free of all prescription medicines! My blog.

You've just been cut open and your stomach is swollen and trying to heal. Anything more than a sip of liquid at the start, puts pressure on your stitches/staples, which could cause them to rupture and you would have a potentially fatal problem on your hands. If you sip, the liquid gets absorbed rapidly and won't hurt your staple line.

Advice varies depending on where you are. Down here in NZ I'm advised to spend only 20 minutes eating a meal. What protein I can consume in that time and the time I get full, is all I need. Never heard of those protein shakes but I'm the other side of the world from you so that's not surprising :-)

Thx. That makes a lot of sense. From what I can gather eating transitions and how much when and how long seem to be all over the map (really ). My sibling lives in Auckland NZ. Teaches at AUT. Been skyping with her a bit regarding the vsg. Did you fund your surgery personally or work through the NZ system?

Age check. Was wondering if anyone out there remembered that film name. Actually, I have been working with my therapist on visualizing the surgery and healing aspects from inside out. In my "minds eye", its one long passage the same size (a longer deeper throat).

BTW I was only a kid when the movie debuted. The community I grew up in was all confused on whether to have it be shown in the movie theatre in town. Lots of backdoor gossip. Never viewed it.

Thank you for sharing. I appreciate the honesty of the group. Sounds as though most sleever's feel much better within a day or so. I'm trying not to get too wrapped around the axel about each little thing. However, knowledge is power.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to post originally and come across as having a filthy mind.

Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but they can usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.

You shouldn't be eating for an hour , you should only eat for 20 mins and whatever you have left you can either throw away or save for later. Liquid intake is due to your tiny tummy.

Weight at pre op - 266lbs
Weight day of surgery - 257lbs

    First target- 210lbs- Hit 29/10/2014
    Second Target - 179lbs-Hit 26/01/2015
    Third target- 166lbs-01/03/2015
    Final target - 147lbs- 28/06/2015
All done in a total of 10 months and 22 days a total loss of 119lbs and I'm still loosing
