Default Good article about getting down to basics of strength training

I think sometimes, often with good intentions, we all over-complicate things on occasion. This article really seems to be good about driving home the points of basic lifting and that you don't have to spend countless hours in the gym to reap great strength benefits. I know I'm looking forward to getting back to the basics and having a little extra time...hopefully cutting back to 4 workouts a week from 6.

It's amazing how sometimes just the right post speaks directly to us. As it would happen I am starting with a trainer today. She has a small gym at her house with mostly free weights and this article confirms I am doing the right thing. Thank you.

Hope it went well with the trainer PammyJo! Those compound lifts/movements are really helpful

It was great! I'm ready to see a difference! We mostly just worked on stabilizing and strengthening my knees. I blew my ACL a few years ago, had the scope to remove it and torn cartlidge but never had the reconstruction so she wants to build the strength there to avoid injury. I printed that article and showed her because it is exactly what she talked about in our intitial consultation. Thank you for asking!

I just started with a trainer too. I'm going to strength train 3x a week for 45 min a time. Big muscle functional movements, versus isolated things. This way you work more in that time.

I have to figure out how much cardio to do additionally...

    I am 6 1/2 weeks out.
    Day of Surgery 7/22: 201
    Month 1: 187
    Month 2: 176
    Month 3: 166
    Month 4: 158
    Month 5: 150
    Month 6: 143
    Month 7: 138
    Month 8: 133
Month 9: 130 (reached target goal)
    Month 10: 126
    Month 11: 126
    Month 12: 123
Month 13-18: 121-123 (weight range on maintenance)

Current goal: maintain weight in low 120s. Exercise 6 days a week - weight lifting, yoga, biking, running, paddleboarding, and just being active.

Great article, thanks! I have been doing aerobics in prep for my surgery which is next week. I will be getting a personal trainer post op.
