Hey guys!

I originally was going to be sleeved but then, for discipline's sake, decided on the bypass. Just had it Friday!

I LOOOOVE this site and am more than happy to offer my experience or any advice I may have to those of you who are 'on the fence', or want to compare notes. From what I understand, each procedure has it's special advantage. I was told I could do either the sleeve or the bypass and absolutely LOVED this new surgeon so I went with my faith in his hands

Hi. I am "on the fence" about the sleeve or RNY. I thought I had my mind made up about getting RNY. The last month and a half, I am not so sure I shouldn't go with the sleeve. What made you change your mind??

Hey Anne, didn't mean to keep you hanging. I got my drain removed today and it hurts MUCH more than I anticipated. I WILL get back to you when I feel better, I'm hoping tomorrow. In the meantime, let me suggest that you do as much research as possible on your choices and know that results and side effects differ greatly person to person

LOl@ black sleeve! I have to say sometimes I have to revisit why I chose the sleeve over bypass. I still have to have discipline! ugh! lol! but not as much. Im very happy with my decision but I can see why somebody might go with the bypass.

I'm finding, right now, that its ALL about discipline! I haven't had any dumping and other than having this crazy drain removed, haven't had any trouble... not even eating! My nutritionist said I was actually taking in too many calories!! My issue is that I'm re learning what 'full' feels like so I really needed all tfhe help I can get

Even people with the bypass gain weight back. It seems easier to take off maybe with the bypass but overall both can be defeated.

@Janese~ that's so true!! If you do either one and do not commit to a lifestyle change, its not going to work. (Well, maybe for a little while but not long term. The selling point for me was when the doc said that its a 50/50 chance that I will get this 'dumping' syndrome. He also assured me that if I'm used to taking my vitamins (I am) I should be just fine and shouldn't worry about the malabsorbtion (sp...srry still on pn meds ... Now, if he had only warned me about the pain AFTER drain removal!!! Uuuugh!! Been in BED for three days

Hope you do well, no matter what surgery you had! I was scared of the bypass and have a good friend who had one years ago. She lost about 115 and kept about 85 off over the years. Not bad. But she definitely has reverted back to some bad habits. So can people who had the sleeve. Portion control and exercise long term are the keys!

I had Rny and loved it, but I think all of them are just a tool and if you use the tool and postive attitude you will succeed.

Ok now I am curious... just how many calories were you taking in the your doctor said was "too many"? I mean really how much <calories> could you really get down 5 days post op??? I don't even think I got down one protein shake <150 cal> on day five just due to body freaking out over the surgery.

How are you feeling? Is the drain site better? It took about 10 days after removal (9 days out) for it to stop bothering me....

I had the RnY on Thursday. All along I was planning to be sleeved, but when I finally met with the surgeon he asked about me taking Prilosec. I told him I had heartburn. He said the stomach will continue to create acid and because the stomach is so small after the sleeve operation, many people have horrible reflux problems, and if I was already having a problem with reflux, he wouldn't consider the sleeve a good option for me. Amazing... I went through 12 weeks of classes at Kaiser, and not once was this brought up. So at the last minute, I agreed to a RnY. Then the doctor told me he had a cancellation the very next day and offered it to me. So, boom - after all these months of getting ready and finally getting to see the surgeon, it was all over!

I'm a little terrified that I had such a drastic operation, but many others have also had it, and so far I'm doing fine. Just working on getting my liquids in and sleeping a lot.

WOW!!!! That's kind of what happened with me too! Once I changed surgeons, it was 'bota boom, botta bing!' Congratulations on your surgery and PLEASE take it easy on yourself!! I just went back to the er, two and a half weeks out with a hernia

A hernia? Were you lifting too much? Otherwise, how are you doing 2-1/2 weeks out?

Be glad you had the RNY. I had the sleeve and I am VERY dissapointed. It is too easy to eat too much junk with no consequence. I am not loosing with it. SUCKS< considering revision
