Red face My journey begins tomorrow.

My surgery date is for tomorrow. I am overwhelmed with different feelings... Excited, nervous, & scared...I've lost 13 pounds since I began my classes towards this. I have Lupus and a 4 year old little girl who is my world. The weight loss will not only help my health but allow me to run after my little girl. I've never done online support groups before. This will be my first. If anyone has any things that will make all this easier or harder on me, by ALL means please send me a shout out. Please keep me in your prayers. God Bless!

You have found the most amazing support family here. You can ask anything and receive multiple answers. This may be the one time in your life that you will need support from a group like this. But before you know it you will be the experienced one answer the questions from the newbies. And you will make many friends.

Expect that your feelings about your surgery will bounce all over the place. At some point after your surgery, you will wonder why you did it. That is usually when it hits you that this change is forever. Hormones will go crazy at first because you lose weight so quickly. Then your weight loss will stall and your old feelings of failing at dieting will return. But push through and keep following your eating, water drinking and exercise plan and the scale will go down again.

For the hospital, I recommend that you take Gas-X Strips for the gas pain. Take them - they melt on your tongue - as soon as you leave recovery. Then walk around when you can. The walking helps with the gas and prevents blood clots in your legs. Be sure you sip liquids throughout your hospital stay. I found that chicken broth was easier to sip than water. Ask for medicine cups that hold one ounce. Your goal is to sip one ounce every 15 minutes. You might not hit that at first. Your stomach will be swollen from the surgery. If you can get one, an abdominal binder helps with pain and discomfort. It hold your insides stationary.

Probably won't sleep much tonight but that's okay. You will have plenty of time to rest after your surgery. And you will need to rest. This is major surgery and your body will need time to heal.

Best of luck on your journey - Bonnie

yep, what bonnie said. i walked into this journey alone, for the autistic daughter that i love with all of my heart. no family support on this. and people here have said the wonderful things i needed to hear to ease my journey along, and others gave me the kick in the pants and the shove out the door with my walking shoes to run along the pathway. you will get all of that, and my best advice is to take what you need from this, offer encouragement to others who fear, worry, or you find common ground with. the gasx was a life saver.slipper socks. you will never be so glad to see your toothbrush as you will after anesthesia, as always i wish you the best,
