Default How do you contol emotional eating after sleeve?

I really am going to need some help with this. Last night I was bored and a little down, I really wanted to turn to my old friend FOOD. I nearly did except I'm only 3 weeks post surgery and my body wouldn't let me yet. But how do you control these feelings? People have been talking about food addictions lately which I've been reading, I don't have an addiction so to speak but I am an emotional eater.

I am a stress eater, a "grazer" & am doing my best to control that. I know it isn't a light switch you can throw off, they are very old habits for me. I just need to be mentally stronger than those impulses.
Can you find another source to direct your energy on when you feel like that, like exercise, call someone, work on a hobby that you enjoy, etc?

I am trying to avoid watching too much television, since (a) it is near the kitchen, (b) they keep showing food commercials and none of them are for a full liquid diet that I am on for 4 weeks, (c) I use to snack mindlessly while watching it.
I hope in Australia they don't show as much "reality TV" as they do here in the U.S..

Lol. Too much reality tv. Maybe I should get some more books and spend my nights reading instead.

Thank you, actually that starting # is from the end of February when I started dieting for the surgery.
You lost a lot of weight too. Great job.

I was definitely a comfort/stress eater and didn't realize that until AFTER being sleeved. I remember the first "bad" day I had at work post-op and I had this huge urge to go through the drive thru and gorge myself until I was uncomfortably full. I am not going to lie, that first time was pretty tough, but every time you have those urges and and don't give into that urge, it gets easier and easier every time.

I'm a HUGE emotional eater. Eating mindlessly in front of the tv is deadly for me. Now I take walks. I play on my iPad. I have a box with coloring books, fresh crayons, soduko, and other activities to distract me. I scrapbook. This is very tough as bad habits are deeply engrained, so like Kindle said use this time to start new routines. Best of luck!!!

I agree with everyone. We are just a few weeks out and those cravings are starting to come back, even though we can't eat yet. I'm just trying to stay focused and as busy as possible.

I do not have my gracing food in my reach. I do not buy them . My husband will gets few and put them out of my reach.
We have small cabinet above our refrigerator . There is no way I can reach it.. He puts hissnacksup there.
Than the thing I reach for are. My sugarless popscicles . If I really feelI need something than I pull out my celery ,always have some cut into small sticks to dip into individual packs of peanut butter. I buy the peanut butter in one serving containers at the Dollar tree.

I save all my chores for those times....laundry, cleaning, yard work, paying bills, etc. I always used to eat in bed while watching TV before going to sleep. Now I sip on a cup of Sleepytime tea instead. It definitely becomes more of a head game as time goes on, so take advantage of the early months to set new habits in place.
Kindle that's a great idea with saving chores until the evening. I have a few of those little habits knocking on my back door as well and I (as odd as it sounds) go and brush my teeth to get a flavor in my mouth then get busy with a book or whatever else I can find until the moment passes.
Though I have to admit I had one night of hellish craving and even after going to bed I woke in the middle of the night - wanting whatever the heck it was that I wanted to eat. I did not eat it but those mental cravings can wreak havoc on this journey we are all traveling.

Every journey begins with one small step....

TV is the worst for me. I don't feel any hunger really, but then the actors are always eating and every commercial is glorifying food, and all of a sudden I want to eat. I am now avoiding the TV as much as possible!
