    Default slow loser...help

I just KNEW I would lose weight soooooo quickly. Well, I'm not. I'm a slow loser. My highest weight was 265. I was 255 on surgery date and now I am 235. My date was 6/30/14, so it's been a month and a half and I'm down 30.

The help I need is, how do you deal with this???? It's so hard not to compare yourself to everyone else. I am constantly looking at everyone's numbers and seeing how they add up to mine.

On the plus side, I am comfortably in my size 18 pants and jeans. Also, I have PCOS and stopped taking metformin the day before my surgery and I started my period yesterday on my own, without meds. That is huge in the PCOS world!!

Anyway, tips on how to deal or speed up my loss would be great!!

It IS hard not to compare yourself to others, but please don't. (I remind myself of this daily.) I am 5 months out and "only" down 65 lbs. I say that, because others have run circles around the amount I have lost. DO NOT COMPARE. Really. Seriously. It's not a race, and your 30lbs and my 65 lbs absolutely rocks! You are not a slow loser, your body is just moving at it's own pace. Be patient. The process works. Do I wish I were down 80-90lbs like some others, at this point? Well sure I do! Am I doing everything correctly, re: protein, eater, etc? Yes, I am. No two are alike. Hang in there, and let go of comparisons.

I have no idea how you think this is a slow loser... no idea. I think your expectations might be unrealistic. This is a tool, not a magic wand. That is a loss of .68 pounds a DAY! That is AMAZING.

    Olivia,

Are you tracking your food intake (proteins, carbs, calories), exercise and water? If so, what are those like?

I haven't been sleeved yet, but those who have would be able to help you more if you provided some information about your current regimen.

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on being sleeved and on your recovering health. That is truly wonderful.

Also, look at my ticker please. You and I started at VERY comparable weights. Our loss is almost exact for the time period you are talking about. I do NOT consider an 81 lb loss (now 82) at 5 months a slow loser. Think about it....do you really think that? We all would love for it to disappear overnight, but I would suggest that your journey is going to be much more joyful and wonderful if you let go of that thought. I wish you the very best in your journey.

I have a hard time not being discouraged when I see YOUR results, MB! You're looking stunning! I'm getting there, and really had to embrace the "no two are alike" thing, because I certainly am not disappointed with my results, and I'm nearly 20lbs behind you! You're killing it, friend!

Olivia, I agree with Ann. I think you should examine your diet & exercise regimen. You might need to change some things about one or both. If you can, consult a nutritionist. Also, be glad your skin won't be hanging off due to rapid weight loss. Good luck to you. Let us know when you break your stall.

Unless I missed it, she does not say she is in a stall and her weight loss is pretty fast at .68 lbs a day. I am not sure about the skin thing. I have lost pretty quickly and have less than I thought. Perhaps it has more to do with skin elasticity and total loss than in how quickly you lose.

Your 30 pound loss sounds incredible to me. I have PCOS and no thyroid. I am 3 1/2 weeks out and have lost 12 pounds as of today. I only am updating my ticker once a week. So, at a month, it may be 13 or so... That definitely will put things in perspective for you

That said, I was originally bummed, but decided to take a new attitude very quickly. If I cannot lose, or gain over time, I will seek help from a nutritionist, and possibly a homeopathic doctor since traditional endocrinology has failed me. But if I lose weight, even if very slow, that is better than I could do before. So my goal is 2 pounds per week on average. My acceptable level before I "freak" is about 5 pounds a month. If I cannot lose even that, eating 600 cal a day and at least 60g of protein, plus exercising, that is when I will worry. But I will try very hard to to worry before that time...

    Does that help?

My stomach has been cut away forever. I will never be able to over-indulge on quantity again. So as long as I eat protein first (leaving me full), I really cannot imagine not losing weight -- even if it takes a year or more to lose the 60 or so pounds I want to.
    Day of Surgery 7/22: 201
    Month 1: 187
    Month 2: 176
    Month 3: 166
    Month 4: 158
    Month 5: 150
    Month 6: 143
    Month 7: 138
    Month 8: 133
Month 9: 130 (reached target goal)
    Month 10: 126
    Month 11: 126
    Month 12: 123
Month 13-18: 121-123 (weight range on maintenance)

Current goal: maintain weight in low 120s. Exercise 6 days a week - weight lifting, yoga, biking, running, paddleboarding, and just being active.

dont focus only on the actual number on the scale ... look at % of weight loss. your starting weight was 265 and your goal weight is 145 so your goal for total weight to lose is 120 lbs. divide 30 (the amount you've lost) by 120 --- YOU HAVE LOST 25% ALREADY!!!! IN A MONTH!!!! A QUARTER OF YOUR WEIGHT IS GONE FOREVER --- IN A MONTH!!!! that is something to get excitted about.. not discouraged! hang in there sweetie it will all come off! you are doing great!
