If your input matches your output then you are right on track. If you are consuming that much water and you still feel thirsty, start making a note about how many times a day you're peeing and whether it's a little volume or a lot. If your ins and outs match and your urine output is light yellow to clear, then your body is probably self regulating very well. If your fluid intake is way higher than your ouput, you may be a little debydrated and that thirst single is your body's way of playing catch-up. Also, sometimes you need to add electrolyes to your fluid consumption, that'll help balance things out.

Toopie has some good information, more than I know. I find with the high protein diet, I am more thirsty.

If I don't spread out my water throughout the day, I get extremely thirsty. You may also want to try decaffeinated tea. Caffeine can be dehydrating instead of hydrating. Water is still your best choice.

@ Terps, you're right. High protein does put extra work on the kidneys, which will in turn send 'thirsty' signals to the brain so that you drink more in order to help maintain proper functioning. I'm very proud of both of you ladies. Keep up the good work. And Kristen (Terps) I see you're about to come out of the 70s. Work it!

Does your tea have caffeine? If so, caffeine is a diuretic. And diuretics make us urinate more than normal, thus dehydrating us. Watch that sodium intake...and I didn't pay attention where you're located, but it is summer after all.
