    Default Caffeine kicks back

Well I am only 6 days away and thank goodness for each and everyone of you giving insight and support. I thought I was doing great, but now that I am actually in the no caffeine phase and cannot take Advil because my surgery is so close so I am feeling some pretty intense caffeine headaches and feeling like an idiot. I was so proud of myself for how easily I gave up Diet Coke (my favorite thing ever) last month. Well I replaced it with Diet Snapple and who am I kidding that stuff tastes great and has a bunch of caffeine so I actually just replaced my vice with a similar one and since it didn't have carbonation made myself believe I was making a positive change.
I knew when I swapped those two that it wasn't that big of a difference, but I just didn't feel like dealing with it. I figured by this time I would be so close to my surgery I would barely notice. I was very wrong and wish I had taken the time to wean myself off the caffeine slowly. It's amazing how addicted our bodies can become to certain chemicals. I am at day 3 though so everything I read shows the headaches should be almost over by now. I just keep reminding myself it's not easy doing the right thing, but it is worth it

I kicked caffeine about a month ago. My headaches lasted longer than 3 days but then again I was drinking a 2 liter everyday

I had to give up caffeine a few years ago due to a heart problem. Man I tell you, that first week was hell. The next two weeks was ok but I was so tired and mornings were really rough because coffee was part of my wake up routine. Then one day I woke up just full of energy and it has been that way since. Once I got the caffeine out of my system fully I felt better than I had in years. You will see.

Ouch! This thread hurts. I've cut way back on coffee ... but I'm not off it yet. My pre-op diet starts Monday.

Thank you so much for this thread ... I'm cutting back even further tomorrow. (It doesn't hurt as much when you cut down gradually.)

For years (decades?) I took two Aleve every morning. I'm down to about one Aleve per week at this point.

Frankly, the Tylenol pills don't do me any good at all. For those of you who have arthritis, does the children's Tylenol really help?

I'm hoping that when I weigh 75 pounds less my arthritic pains will be greatly reduced.

I drank my last diet coke just before midnight the night before my surgery. I had slowly been cutting back but didn't have to give it up until after surgery. The day of surgery I had a slight headache but since I slept most of that day. Thought it would be harder to give up since I was a 6-8 cans a day drinker. I didn't have much trouble giving it up which was awesome.

I was addicted to diet coke and had a really hard time giving it up before surgery but I did it. After my surgery, I did not drink caffeine but at about 8 weeks out, I needed my coffee again! I now drink one-two cups coffee everyday sweetened with Splenda and 1% milk. It does not bother my acid reflux and my dr said it was ok to drink it. Coffee to me is a mainstay in my life but I only drink it in the mornings usually.

I know how you are feeling. I think I did not realize that after years of coffee, tea and excedrin, I became a "drug addict" in my own way.

Knowing that my liquid diet is going to be hard enough (starts Aug. 19), I decided to give up all caffeine now while also eating a balanced diet. This is my third day without caffeine. And yes, I have headaches constantly. I am hoping that by Monday, those pesky headaches will be gone and my body will be caffeine-free.

Stick to your pre-op diet. You are doing great!! And, wow, just a few more days and your life will change forever. Best of luck to you.

I just logged on and you guys made my day. I feel much better now, but it made me realize how much time I spent during the day enjoying my Diet Coke/Snapple. I also realize I take way too much Advil now that I can't have any.
