Start by thinking its not a "health food store" its what a store should be less processed junk more raw food products to make food with. I would say the best place to start is by taking your favorite meals and seeing how you might tweek them to be healthier choices and then if you dont already know how to make them at home try. Anything you can buy in a restaurant or store can be made at home you just need to learn a new set of skills to deal with the new food choices you are gonna be making now.

Just like some people have to prepare themselves for the liquid diet phase by introducing themselves to the protein shakes early as a meal replacement, I think everyone who is preparing for the surgey should slowly stat preparing themselves by introducing these kind of products pre-surgery.

I have already started cutting some of my carbs out and introducing more fruits/vegetables (especially since everything is so fresh) so when I do have my surgery sometime next year it won't be such a shock for me.

Just do the best you can, I have faith you can adapt.

I go to Whole Foods all the time. Their fruit is amazing. Once I was there when they were restocking the fruit section. I asked what was good today. He took a knife out of his pocket and let me taste four different fruits. Two I had never heard of. It was an adventure! Next time start small. Buy some flowers to cheer you up.

Do you have a Costco nearby? When I got the okay to eat solid foods, I made a trip to Costco and stocked up on the individual packaged portions of turkey burgers, chicken breast, cod and Pollock.

Think of it as a natural food store.

I have noticed that Whole foods seems to be the most expensive of the "real food" stores in my area. Check to see if you have a Sprouts near you I love these stores and they have much better prices than whole foods (or as one cashier said Whole paycheck)

I'm curious ... what did you find overwhelming about Whole Foods?

The variety of options? The size of the store? The store layout? The prices?

Our Kroger is the best place to get fresh fruits and veggies, and they buy locally. We always get ours from there.
