What is the best shampoo for preventing hair loss?

I have heard of It's a 10 and Nioxin. Which is better? If the Nioxin, which kind (there seems to be a variety on amazon)? Is one better than another for preventing fading in color treated hair?

I am an ex-hair stylist and I would always recommend Nioxon. I have heard of people using its a 10 but I dont think it makes a claim for hair loss the way Nioxon does. The best thing to do is go to the Nioxon web site and there is a question and answer forum that will tell you witch one is best for you. They have 6 different formulas and that would also include formulas for color treated hair.

Save your money, honey. If it's going to happen it will. I did invest in a good "makes your hair fuller" conditioner. :-)

I just started Nioxin this weekend, my hair was falling out in clumps! Have you had any hair loss at all? My hair is already thin to begin with, the amount falling out is ALOT!

I have heard NIoxin and Biotin shampoo..BTW where can you purchase NIOXIN? Is it a special order or do beauty supplies have it?

I found Nioxin in the CVS by me. I also know that Amazon carries Nioxin, and it's probably cheaper than CVS.

I have found that Jason Restorative Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner is very good too! I switch between it and Nioxin.

I cut mine from being mid back length to about 1-2 inches. I had dredlocks which did not allow for dead hair to shed as it was but I found that a month after I cut it I was shedding something serious. I am going to just wear a short style a while, until it gets adjuted to all that is going on with my body.

I spoke to my dietician about this and she said there is nothing you can do its part of the weight loss cycle when you are eating such little calories , my hair is my best feature but I've realised for a while I will loose it but it's only temporary and soon you will have lovely new hair to go with your lovely new body . She also said it doesn't happen to everyone I'm going to do what. @bird48 said and but a decent shampoo and conditioner for fuller hair .

I have used organix shampoo and conditioner since before surgery, it comes in a purple bottle containing biotin and collagen, I have had very hair loss, and i am 10 months post op. this can be found in wal mart or walgreens, about 6 bucks a bottle, love it.

One of the things I have been told is to not color your hair for the first 5 to 6 months as it will increase the hair loss. I don't know from experience if this is true, but it is one of the cautions I have been given.

Oh, Ema. I am so upset to hear that. :-( I don't know if I can go without coloring my hair--I don't know what will look worse, inches of roots or less hair.

Jodi - I am with you! I color to cover grey and mouse brown. I may have to just color it anyway and hope for the best!
