    Default WLS and age

As we age, weight loss becomes slower, I was wondering if this is the case with gastric sleeve weight loss? As I read about other's weight loss I am not seeing this same correlation or at least it does not seem so. Any thoughts??

    Thanks.

In addition to age, weight loss is also impacted by genetics, lifestyle changes, exercise, and metabolism. Not everyone will lose the same amount of weight or in the same amount of time. It is better to avoid making comparisons to the perceived success of others as each body type is different. In addition, the amount effort required for weight loss will also vary per individual. NIH and other medical sites have a number of studies on weight loss and should also have a longitudinal study on gastric bypass. I am not sure if there is on already done for Gastric Sleeve patients. Check with your medical team for any studies they have done.

I am 51 and 13 weeks post-op and I've lost 49 pounds. I average between 2-3 pounds per week. I eat about 700 cal/day and work out six days a week. 3 weights, 3 cardio. I am more than happy with these results. Prior to surgery I couldn't lose an ounce to save my life. 1200 cal a day and 6 days a week exercise. Thank goodness for this sleeve!!!

I rarely workout ... bad I know but I am a police dispatcher and work crazy shifts. I do mow the yard etc and get some sort of activity everyday. I have lost a crazy amount of weight in a very short time and I have the metabolism of a rock!

its later when you need the working out to be part of your regimen. early months losing is easy but it wont continue to be that way forever no matter how good your metabolism might be.

I'm over 50 and I do not want to exercise more than 3 times per week - EVER. I know this means that I will probably lose at a much slower rate, but I don't care about living in the gym. I care about having a healthy work/gym/family/life balance. I eat around 800-900 calories per day and notice that my dress sizes are dropping faster than my weight, but I'm pleased with it. I'm also peri menopausal and lack in motivation at times. It is life and I flow with it.

Try not to get caught up in others weight loss, just do you. Good luck.

I am 57, began at 350, did not really try to lose weight during the 6 months of supervised nutrition classees (just paid attention to the life changes post surgery), have not done much exercise (but am joining the gym tomorrow on my 3 month anniversary.) I lost 26# during my two week pre-op liquid diet and have lost 65# since my surgery. I am really surprised as I thought I had screwed up my metabolism from my decades of yo-yo dieting.
I am proof that following the "rules" will work despite age. What is most important is your frame of mind and sense of commitment to your new way of life.
