I was sleeved 12 days ago and want to share my experience as it was me reading other experiences that helped me prepare. I had to be at the hospital at 530am I was so nervous my stomache was in knots, I thought I was going to vomit. I never had surgery in my adult life, I had wrist surgery when I was 10. Waiting for two hours while they prepped me was torture the closer the time got the more nervous I became. The nurses put my IV in and they were so nice they numbed me first so I didn't feel a thing, then the anesthesiologist came in, then the dr. Shortly after it was time for me to go. I walked myself to the operating room and laid down on the bed, this was scary, I almost took off and ran out the door. Last thing I heard was we're giving you the good medicine then I woke up in recovery. Waking up in recovery was the worse part of this experience for me. I woke up to a woman hysterically crying (she had a mastectomy) and a young child screaming trying to jump out her bed. Due to the commotion I did not have a nurse near by i woke up with horrible back pain and a burning in my stomache, I remember yelling for medication so they put something in my IV. That did not help..... They finally got me hooked up to the pain pump and I felt relief. I feel back asleep and woke up to them wheeling me to my room, I had to use the restroom like immediately so they got me up right away to go. I was shocked how fast I was up walking. They kept me in the hospital two days due to my nausea, i couldn't drink without almost throwing up. I was walking a lot more then they asked me to, every time i got up to use the restroom I walked. My back was killing me and the only thing that helped was walking. The nurses were really nice and came in the room almost immediately after I hit my call button, it was nice having their care but I was ready to go home.
The first few days after surgery I felt tired and it was really hard for me to drink any fluids however, by Saturday I felt great. The gas pain was easing, I was reducing my pain meds and was able to drink water and eat Popsicles just fine. I was walking a lot as well even walked the whole grocery store. Now I am 12 days out I feel great and am about 15 pounds down I am off pain meds and am eating pretty good just less. For anyone contiplating the surgery GO FOR IT!!! The pain is minimum I can't even remember any pain now that I am looking back. I feel better then I have in a few years.
