Question 1st Day of Pre-Op Lifestyle Change

So, I began the journey of a thousand steps today with the prep work for the new "diet", getting the habit of measuring things and keeping track of my protein and liquid intake. I have a question for you folks: How do you deal with going out to dinner or lunch during this stage? I have no idea, other than reading labels and measuring things, how much protein is in a particular item. Do I bring my food scale with me wherever I go? I am only have joking on that. The not drinking during meals and waiting between eating and drinking seems to be easier than I thought. I think the timer on my phone and microwave are going to be my best friends, along with my food scale.

Before surgery, if I knew I would be going out to lunch, dinner, or grabbing something on the go, I would look up the nutritional facts on the restaurant's website to plan out what I was going to order. I found that I made much better choices when I walked in knowing what I should order rather than trying to guess after I was already there. Good luck!

My pre-op has been 5 shakes a day, clear sugar-free liquids and a serving of non-starchy vegetables with no fat once a day. So going out hasn't really been practical for me. I have been staying home as much as possible to avoid being tempted! :-)
