Anyone drinking coke/diet coke post op?
My nut has discouraged me from drinking diet coke (I would think, even if I were allowed to drink Coke post surgery, drinking regular anything would be frowned on due to the sugar) post surgery. I think that is due to the carbonation stretching the sleeve and potentially causing you to eat more which would result in weight gain. She has allowed me my caffeine but told me that it only counts as 1/2 towards my liquid intake. For example, if I have a 16 oz mug of coffee in the morning, like I did today, it only counts as 8 oz towards my goal of 100 oz each day.
No are you kidding I will never touch that stuff again! I am hardly losing weight now and I have one coffee a day, 2 protein shakes with fruit, 1% cottage cheese, small greek yogurt, no fat no sugar pudding, and proteins which is chicken breast chewed really well. I am 4 weeks out from surgery and 2 weeks dieting pre op so thats 6 weeks of dieting basically and I have only lost 26 lbs. Help I feel like I am not going to lose anymore the scale is not budging.
I cannot believe it. One of dr Kelly's patients went and had a McDonald's hamburger after the sleeve as soon as she was out of the hospital. She said she chewed it really well? He was so upset and said there is really nothing you can do to help patients who refuse to commit to the diet and refuse to help themselves. My addiction and cravings were strong at first but now they have gone away. I have heard in one year they come back stronger then ever so I am worried.
Here is a link to Dr Matthew Weiner on your post op diet and how to eat going forward. Its excellent!
I have not craved one since getting out of surgery and I was a 6 to 8 can a day drinker. Since surgey I have done Gatorade (G2) low in sugar but since hitting my stall two weeks ago I have switched to protein drinks usually 2 a day and 64-96 oz of water. I have water with me all the time now.
haha I walk and do house work but honestly you are not supposed to exercize vigorously for 6 months. I am 64 so I don't think I am supposed to be doing boot camp. Any suggestions for someone my age? Yoga and Pilates are out for 6 months and I cannot swim.
Good call on the soda talk. Don't worry about your weight loss. It will resume. At three weeks you stall. Everyone does. Look up three/four week stall. Keep going.
i drink diet coke every now and again dont let anybody tell you what you should and should not have everybody is different i have never been sick from drinking diet coke also there is no food really that is off limits altogether its dependant on the individual most things are ok in moderation but again as i say everybody is different my advice if you want to try it try it slowly your body will soon tell you if something doesnt agree with you its all learning hun all i know is im loving life because im not telling myself that a sneaky bite of burger is off limits that is how people become miserable and depressed and fall into the trap of thinking they will never enjoy eating again its not slowed me down im 5 months out and 80 pounds down
Ok, I won't tell you to have or not have it. I will, however, tell you that when I started drinking diet, that's when I could feel my sleeve begin to stretch. I could take in a lot more food, so I immediately stopped and never looked back. Personally, I will never drink anything with carbonation because I don't want to take the chance, but it is totally your decision! Best to you!
I used to drink 10-12 twenty-ounce bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper DAILY. I haven't had any since late November and I feel amazing without the stuff! I do not miss sodas one bit. Another NSV, is the cost savings by switching to water. I didn't realize just how much this addiction was costing me; my body and my wallet!
