Default Question about the staples and sleeve healing

I understand that the surgeon staples the sleeve closed. Does the stomach eventually heal and bind itself like any wound would close or will the staples always be holding the new stomach pouch (sleeve) closed?

The stomach closes around the staples, so the scar and staples become one. It isn't like the staples are what holds your stomach closed once it's healed. I am not a doctor nor do I play one on tv. That is how it was explained to me by the gastro.

Do a google search on you tube and you can watch the entire surgery. Dont watch it if it will freak you out, but I love surgery stuff so it doesn't make me queasy or anything. Cool devices that you can see the 5-6 layers like off balance railroad tracks making the staple line. I wouldn't consider them staples like the ones we for paper but they are kinda cool looking. But just search on you tube.

The laser they use to make the incision on your stomach cuts and cauterizes at the same time. So your stomach incision doesn't bleed. Then it's stapled at the seam. Weird how I couldn't feel any internal pain after surgery. Pain was all exterior incision pain only.

The two staplers that are used 99% of the time are either made by Ethicon EndoSurgery or Covidian. Very cool technology... cuts, positions and staples all at the same time. Google the two devices and there is a lot of material from the companies available. The staples do most of the work at the beginning then your body takes over.

Hope that helps and it's a very clean technique to watch. It was very interesting to me to see all the organs. What was wild was seeing the fat. If that doesn't stop you from eating I don't what will. I have that vision in my head now when I go to eat anything or want something I shouldn't have.
