Question Postal workers/ back to work?

I work 2-3 days a week as a driving postal carrier and have been told I can return to work after one week.
It sounds a bit to soon since I do stretch, lift, and drive all day. Any postal workers here would you tell me how much time you took to recover? Please :-)

Well, I'm not a postal worker, but I can tell you what I was told about the movement that you will be doing.

First, you can only life 10 pounds, you can't drive on drugs, so you have to be off of them for several days and turning your upper body does not feel good for the first week or two. You also get super tired, so I can't imagine trying to drive a car all day that soon after surgery. I would try to get a couple of weeks to recover. If you can't do that, then put some caffeine in your water to make sure you stay awake, don't take drugs after you leave the hospital to get them out of your system and I'm sure you will survive.

I haven't had the surgery yet, but my nut told me that for every day I am in the hospital it means one week off of work. They expect me in the hospital 2 to 3 days. This would me a total of 3 weeks off of work, possibly. I have read on the boards where people have had the surgery on like a Wednesday and have been working from home like 3 days later. Remember, these were office jobs. I would confirm again with your surgeon. Like natex said, your upper body may or may not feel sore for awhile afterwards. Everybody's body is different and takes a while to heal. I had an adenoidectomy done a little over a year ago and limped around for a week afterwards (I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia).

I am retired from the PO and had the surgery after that. Make sure your doctor knows what your job entails and have youour surgeon put into writing all of your restrictions. You will have a weight restriction of no more than 10# for at least 1 month. You can do NO driving until you are off all narcotic pain medication. If your office is like Baltimore, they will not provide light duty (as opposed to limited duty--job related). I hope your area works with you on your restrictions.
Best of luck with your surgical, weightloss and PO journeys.

I will be taking four weeks off because my office cannot put me on light duty. Thanx for replying to my post.
