I had my surgery on May 12th. I had some problems at home which I thought was just gas. It was a Tuesday evening when all of a sudden I experienced the worst pain in my life in my abdomen. I called an ambulance which probably saved my life because my blood pressure was 80/50. I was admitted to the hospital. A cat scan showed air in my stomach which was an indicator that I had a leak. They finally found the leak by Friday but by then my whole abdomen was infected with stomach contents. Then I went into septic shock. They had to do emergency surgery. They suctioned as much infection out of my abdomen as they could and surgically sewed in 4 drains in my abdomen. They also put two stents in my stomach to bypass the leak. Then both of my lungs partially collapsed. I was in ICU for 11 days. I spent an entire month in the hospital. I am home now but I still have one drain in my abdomen and both stents in my stomach. The stents make me vomit and they hurt.I still have an IV and every night I have to give myself TPN (a big bag of nutrition). I have visiting nurses too. I am very weak. Right now I think the surgery was the biggest mistake of my life. I'm hoping that will change once I fully recover.
