    Default Mourning food already

Hi, I just spoke to my surgeon about my preop diet. Now I feel sad and depressed, you know that feeling you get when ready to start another diet? Did anybody feel this way preop? I don't want to be on a diet forever. I want to learn to enjoy most foods in moderation, knowing that I will have to abstain from trigger foods. But the thought of eating crappy diet food the rest of my life is not appealing.
Did anybody else feel this feeling of morning when they started their preop diet?

YES! I had several food funerals and felt soooo very guilty. But now I am 8 nweeks out AND I EAT WHATEVER I WANT well, within reason I can almost eat a whole McDonalds chicken McNugget! Tiny Tummy does not do beef well yet but I make an AWESOME chicken burger and had pulled pork tonight! I even take a baby bite of dessert if I want it. Have no fear my dear you are not giving up food forever!!

Thanks so much. I think it's more of that diet mentality than the food itself. The idea of going on a diet is emotionally exhausting. I can't wait to get where you're at.

Who says you have to eat crappy diet food for the rest of your life???? You are going to be given the opportunity to, perhaps for the first time as an adult, to eat wisely and eat healthy... ONLY now you will be eating (once you get through the first several stages post-op) quality vs quantity! You will know your intake limit, eat 5-6 tiny meals a day with concentrating on protein first! Throw the word *diet* out of your vocabulary and replace your old thoughts with new ones! This is for the rest of your life and trust me, the sleeve is IN charge! hahahaha....... good luck! Rember, it's just one bite at a time!!!

Getting through the first 4 days after that it just became easier to eat from diet sheet. Now since surgery last Monday I was so ready to be done drinking my meals. Today I got to move the next stage I had chicken salad for lunch and it was the best ever. Tonight I had chicken chunks with mayo and parm cheese. Did I get to eat a lot nope but ate about 8 pieces. So this is the process to get to the other side.

This all reminds me of when I went on a severe backpacking trip for six days. One day it was so grueling and raining so hard we couldn't start a fire ,our little Smoldering ashes could not cook or Mack and cheese. And we didn't have a strainer. But I was so hungry it was the best meal ever. Hard noodles cheesy water Yum that's what a meal sounds like after time of fast

I didn't have food mourning until after surgery. The surgery isn't another diet. It is a tool, portion control, treat as a diet we are doomed to failure like we have for our entire life. Follow the rules during your healing stage and eat in the correct order, protein 1st, veggies 2nd, fruit (or whatever) 3rd and everything will be ok. Will your relationship with food change, most definitely, but what other choices do we have?

I think that you will be just fine. Right now, since you haven't had surgery, its just fear of the unknown. You will be able to eat real food, and eat what you want. You just won't be able to eat a lot of it, and most of the time not even have a desire for food! Good Luck as you continue on to your surgery day!

    Hi Terrora
There is a thread that several people post to regularly called "What's on Your Menu Today?" Having a look here might help ease your concerns about what kinds of foods will be doable in your future

I think you are just looking at this wrong. You are on a special diet to help you body get ready for or heal from surgery. Once you are fully healed you will be able to eat real food again. It is really only a few weeks that you are restricted on what you can eat. It does seem hard now but once you are two months out you will be over the worst of it. After that, you can eat everything again, but just in small amounts.
