5 weeks post op

Hi Sleevers,

I'm 5 weeks post op and I'm really having some issues. I've been havng this bad taste in my mouth since surgery, but I tried to just ignore it and just thought is was the medication they had me on in the hospital trying to leave my body. After discovering a film on my tongue and scraping it off three days in a row I called my surgeon. I was told that I have oral thrush(nasty) which I was confused bcause I only thought babies get that, but no adults can too. The nurse told me I probably got it for the antibiotic they gave me in the hospital and that only 1% of patients get it and of course I'm the 1%. Anyway, the surgeon prescribed nystatin mouth wash so I will need to use that for the next 2 weeks.

Apart from that I have dry heaves at least 2 times a day,which is so annoying and I vomit at least once a week. I just wanted to know if anyone else is or has had this same problem after surgery. I hope this is just a phase that will pass in a few weeks.

I had dry heaving the first two days and it was because I was nauseous, the only time I vomit is if I eat to fast. If you feel it coming sometimes burping helps.

Be sure that you are eating very slowly, chewing your food to the consistency of apple sauce and never drink while eating. Also stay away from straws and stop drinking at least 15 minutes before you eat and don't drink for 30 minutes after you eat.

I haven't had any problems eating anything so far. I'm on pureed foods and I eat very slowly.

I had the VERY same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was DISGUSTING! The taste in my mouth was so terrible I couldnt even get my liquids down and what I did get down tasted so foul that it made me sick! I had a very hard time with it and became dehydrated. When I was able to start on more solid foods it REALLY helped! It finally went away and am doing better now. I feel your pain! It is terrible!!!!!!!
