    Default Three-year update

I hope everyone is managing to stay cool and hydrated this summer. I am in Texas where the outdoor temperatures have consistently hovered in the high 90s for the past few weeks.

Anyhow, my three-year surgiversary was on April 20 of this year. My weight has remained stable in spite of my current bout of inactivity triggered by a back injury on May 8th. Prior to that day, I was used to running 3+ miles daily, but I've been sedentary lately since running is too painful with sciatic nerve pain that constantly shoots down one leg.

Both of my parents died at fairly young ages within the past year and a half, so I haven't visited these forums as much as I once did. My mother died in January of last year two weeks prior to her 59th birthday and my father died this past February at age 61. I miss them and am trying to navigate life as an adult orphan at age 37.

To prevent weight gain during this sedentary phase in my life, I've focused on protein first. The sciatica flare-up has prevented me from cooking because standing for prolonged periods is painful. Therefore, I've eaten one large high-protein takeout meal per day such as street tacos, Korean spicy beef with vegetables, or chicken strips.

Attached is a recent picture of me that was taken in late April at Pacific Beach in San Diego. I was in California for my father's memorial service, which consisted of scattering his cremated remains at sea. After the service my friend and I drove to San Diego for some relaxation and vacationing.

That is so hard, I know it.
Becoming an orphan at any age can be devastating.
I think you are a trooper for hanging in there and doing the best you can!
I sure hope your back will get better soon.
English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Sorry about your loss. It's not easy to lose parents at a young age and stay focused. You're doing well and although I don't know you personally but as a parent I know they would want you to be healthy.

I'm not sure how you feel about rotisseri chicken but it's one of my best friends when I don't want to cook. You can make nearly anything you want to eat using the deboned chicken. Not sure where you are in Texas but if you are in the Dallas area there are a lot of grocery stores with excellent deli's. Market Steeet has great turkey meatloaf, roasted turkey breast, and baked chicken. Their deli also has really healthy vegetables or you can quickly steam veggies using steamer bags.

You are doing great. I hope your health issues soon pass so you can get back to the physical activity you like to do. Again, sorry about the loss of both of your parents. Hugs from me to you!

RehabNurse, I'm always so glad to see your messages pop up here.

But this is tough news -- of your parents' passing and your injury and sciatica pain. I really, really hope your medicos and you can figure out how to correct the sciatica problem(s) and that you recover soon. I know how much you love running and being active in general.

That said, you really do look great, make that beautiful!, in the photograph you attached.

Sending you strong hopes and vibes for a good and permanent recovery. <3

You are beautiful! I am so sorry about losing your parents at such young ages, how heartbreaking. (I say young because I'm 61!!)

I'm thinking of my dad today on Father's Day who passed away in his 60's. I used to look around at other people and think, "That's not fair. They have a father."

Hope you start feeling better, I also understand not being able to exercise because of an injury. It sucks.

Thank you all for the well-wishes and condolences. It means a lot to me.

I will try to visit these forums more often because I received so much information in my early days here. Now, as a 3+ year vet, it is my time to return the favor and bestow information upon newer sleevers.

    Again, thanks everyone.
