RE: Re-sleeved

Has anyone been re-sleeved due to the small amount of weight lost? I was sleeved in 2012 and I only lost a total of 45 pounds. I'm grateful for the lost of the 45 pounds....but I'm still considered Morbidly Obese. I would like to be re-sleeved if possible. I believe my surgeon gave me the biggest bogie he had... I have not lost weight as I have observed others. Any suggestions?????

Or Comments about this. Help!!! I'm feeling a little desperate....because I do not want to be Morbidly Obese......I HATE

the sound of those words.....It just goes all through me. I need positive re-enforcements.

Maybe you can do the bypass. During class they said the sleeve is just the first part of the bypass....just a thought. I'm curious how are you eating ?

I am curious to how tall you are? I see that you are not 100 pounds over weight and normally to achieve a BMI of 40 (morbidly obese) you have to be 100lbs over weight. I am not saying that you arent but was curious as to your height. As Shaneece has stated, the sleeve is the first step to a full blown by-pass. That can be an option for you. There is a small percentage of people that just the sleeve doesnt work for different reasons. You can try to get back to basics and do the 5 day pouch test. You can also start tracking the ABC's (All Bites Count). You might be suprised as to how many carbs are getting into your diet. You might not be eating enough protiens or drinking enough. It is easy to slip back into old habits. If you had the procedure done locally you can try to get with your surgical team for some information to assist you. I was told that after a year out it becomes a "diet" to drop extra weight and that is where I am now. Godspeed on your journey.

I have notice lately that my bad eating habits are on the rise. Been craving chips(salty things) and butter cookies....

But on a regular I have a protein shake in the morning with a Greek Yogurt...Lunch 1/2 chicken breast and 1 cup of kale and spinach leaves....with a yogurt dressing...Dinner Taco salad...Homemade. Just a sample of the way I eat. I keep fresh fruit and vegetable on hand to eat when I feel hungry. I exercise 4 times a week for 1 hour. I also drink coffee at least 3 cups a day. I'm trying to cut back to once a day again.

Sounds like you are doing the right things. Have your blood work checked as well.

for the information. I will search and try the 5 day pouch test. I think I will just come back often for support. I need all of the supportive words I can get, as well as give, to help me and others stay on our Journey. So Thank you again

I definitely will get my food journal out and start writing down everything that I eat.

It doesn't seem like you're eating that much. Have you been tested to see if you are insulin resistant?

will do. Stay on track and you will do just fine. I'm happy that I have been sleeved....and yes I would do it over again. I just realized that everyone results will not be the same. This is my 2nd year coming around to my third year so...the show must go on and I must continue to make the necessary adjustments to help me keep the weight off. Thanks again

I'm not sure what Insulin resistance is....but I have been tested to see if I was Diabetic...the answer was no. So I'm trying to figure out where I need to make adjustments...so I can reach the ONDERLANDS...

When I was considering surgery my surgeon mentioned that the sleeve surgery which I chose, might be stage 1 if I do not lose enough weight. He explained that stage 2 would be having the R-N-Y bypass. That has been enough motivation for me and I am doing everything I can to avoid another weight loss surgery. I suggest you work with a dietician to see what you can do.

After thought, You gave a sample of a normal days diet but concentrate on caloric intake. IF you exercise on that day you might be taking in a negative amounts of calories which can put your body into starvation mode. You need to keep up with NET calories a day. It is very important when logging your food intake that you also log exercise. IF you consume 1000 calories and burn 600 in exercise you are actually only getting in 400 calories that day. You will be in starvation mode. It is funny how our bodies work. Everyone is different on how many net calories they need but sometimes increasing calories in a healthy way can help us lose weight.

You said that you are craving salty foods. Instead of jumping on the chip wagon where you are consuming alot of high processed calories, try eating some salty nuts. This will give you the salt you are craving and also some added protiens and NO high processed calories. Godspeed on your journey.

Out of curiosity, have you tested your capacity? Usually, what folks do it get a container of cottage cheese, weigh it, and when you have a completely empty stomach eat as much as you can till your are full, and then return whatever it uneaten to container and weigh it again, subtract the end weight from the begin weight to determine how much capacity you have. If you dont have much already, then re-sleeving wouldnt be of much value. There is some literature on the net about resleeving but not a whole lot.

Have you requested your surgical notes? Mine has my bougie information in there, including details about the cutting machine ("stapler"), condition of my internal organs, incision size, etc. Have you done an endoscopy (recommended at the 6 month point) to understand the condition of your sleeve internally? Did you ever follow-up w/ your surgeon/nut? Many people are discouraged when they see a low weight loss to follow up with care, but it could be possible they would be the best ones to help you.
