Default Almost 6 weeks after surgery... pain and pouch distension

I've been excited to lose 39 lbs. in about 8 weeks, but seem to be going through a rough patch here at almost 6 weeks. Having trouble getting in protein and liquid, having stomach pain whether or not I eat. Bending over is quite painful. Stomach is tight feeling most of the time. Had an upper GI last Friday and rec'd word on Tuesday that no leak showed up, the stomach seemed to empty fine, but there is an "unexplained distension" of my pouch that shows up on the pics. The nutrition dr. didn't know what this was from, any ideas? My surgeon is on vacation and won't be back until Monday, after which I hope he'll contact me as I've left a message for him. Could this enlargement in the stomach be scar tissue, swelling at this late date, ???.

Well, we learn something new everyday, but Ive never heard of that. It took them from Fri to tues to tel you that you didnt have a leak? and they let you go home with an extended abdomen? or pouch even? So today, or yesterday rather, has been a week since the test and it had to be like that for a little whle before that right? I dont even know what to say. You want I should beat them up for you!? that makes me mad, Ill beat them up for me. Next time you go in there, tell them you are not leaving til they figure out the problem. IM praying for your safety, I dont mean to sound scary, It may be nothing but they dont know that! pleas tll us what they say and how you are.
dont wait for him to contact you, be on the phone if not in the office first thing Mon. give me the number! Ill call em for you!

pretty darn good that they let you go home? isn't there another dr. in that office that could help you out? thats awful!!! sorry to say. I don't believe that you should be in this much pain this far out. I hope that they get back to you ASAP and don't mess around with you. you need some relief and if not I would ask for a refural. Good luck. let us know what happens.

Thank you for the replies ladies. I'm going to try to speak with someone Monday morning. I've had to back down my eating and drinking to almost nothing to minimize the stomach pain. When I eat, the food seems to just stay in my stomach and not move on for a long, long time. Also, having indigestion and some burning in my throat. I guess I wanted to know that this wasn't normal before complaining again. Hoping to get back on the right track soon.

I had surgery the same day as you. I'm not having the issues you are having. Please let us know the outcome. I've not had any discomfort unless I drink something too fast. My tummy talks to me while I eat but that is something that has happened since I added real food. Good luck and keep us informed.

can the burning be acid reflux? that could be an added stress for you. Please make sure you get on the phone and call that office, and if nothing else go there and demand to speak with someone! or sit right there in the office till they see you! I did that here one time when the dr. in charge was to busy to call me back, and the nurse worried I was going to say something to the patients waiting to see him, so guess what, they took me right in! (thats the yankee in me I guess) lol but if i didn't I would have been dead by now, it was a heart issue. and no call back. but I am now ok. sometimes we have to stop thinking were doing something wrong, when we know we don't feel right we need answers. good luck and and don't back down, get someone to see you!

I also had surgery the same day as you. I was having persistent, horrible heartburn and burning in my throat as well. My dr. prescribed Nexium twice a day and my food intake/tolerance has dramatically increased. I was only getting 200-300 calories per day, and I am able to eat more regular (sleeve sized) portions now. Please let us know what your Dr. says.
