Default What are your monthly weight loss goals?

I had my surgery in Mexico and my follow up care is with my PCP. He doesn't seem to care about how much I'm losing. He is more concerned with me being well nourished, hydrated and healthy. I am down 25lbs since my surgery one month ago. I don't know if that's good or bad but honestly, it doesn't matter, I feel better and I know my body will lose at it's own pace.

However, I've read a few posts on here where people are either celebrating their weight loss and some posts where others are not. This made me curious to what kind of weight loss goals do you have? How much weight does your doctor/nutritionist expect you to lose each month?

Anyway, just curious to see what my WLS family has to say. Y'all have a great night and God Bless!!!

Honestly, everyone is different and the fact remains that being sleeved will allow for weight loss. I am not in compition with anyone else nor do I feel like I have to lose a certain amt. of weight to please Dr.s or Nutts! I know what I need to do and it is up to me to follow through!

    Have a great day!

My surgeon told me average weight loss is ten to twelve pounds a month for first six months. Hope that helps.

I don't have monthly weight loss goals, although I'm always happy to see the numbers go down. Instead I tend to set myself quarterly goals and check in on them so often. Of course I look for the weight milestones, 300, 250, 200 etc, but if I stay with the program: protein, water, exercise, attitude - the weight will take care of itself. Here's an example of the goals for this quarter:

    Hit Onederland (check)
Get in the gym 5x week (check)
Get into strength training (nope, not there)
Do deep meditation at least once a week (half check)
Get off my blood pressure medication (not yet /sigh)
Hit a size 14 jean (check)
Hit a size 18 bathing suit (check, although it's still in the mail)
    Hit a size 12 top (I'm in a 12/14 so I'm halfway there)

I check in with my goals on the quarters, so on the 21st I'll be looking for new goals. One of them is going to be yoga 3x week since they're opening a new gym and there are going to be early morning classes I can go to. So bottom line for me is that weight isn't really a factor. I give my body what it wants and needs and concentrate on other things - okay so in my case it's clothes lol.

I was never given any time related goals by my surgeon, PCP or NUT. My guidance was essentially, "Hydration and protein first, move more, and the rest will follow".

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.

Well each person is different......I lost 50 lbs my first week, but my BMI was only 36.5. Your numbers may be different. I had to go to the ER a couple of weeks ago because I was severely dehydrated. I received and IV drip and some ice chips. Basically he told me that I can survive without actual food for weeks, but I must stay hydrated. So I drink water regularly and I have found the Rita`s Italian ice takes the thirsty taste away in my mouth. Vitamin Water seems to work better that Gatorade.

I do have a weight loss goal, its in my ticker, but honestly, my other goals I have already achieved: I feel better about myself, I am becoming more social and accepting more social engagements and I am feeling better about myself mentally. My surgeon and my NUT have never discussed weight goals with me. They are both concerned about whether or not I am feeling well and if I am getting in my protein and striving for a well-balanced diet. Good luck to you--25 pounds in a month seems about right to me.

My surgeon does not have a weight loss goal for me. During my initial visit, he stated that based on my BMI, I should lose between 80-90 lbs (I weighed 219 at the time). Although my own personal goal was to get my hypertension down and eliminate some of my medication. I had surgery on 2/13/14 and I was taking 340mg of hypertension meds and a water pill daily. I am now down 55 lbs. and my medication is down to 25 mg of meds and a water pill. My overall goal is to eliminate the bp medication along with minimizing my asthma meds also. In addition, I went from a size 18 down to a 6 and I am steadily decreasing. If I lose another 25 lbs. I may disappear. I don't think about the pounds as much as when I will stop losing weight. During my last doctor's visit, he assured me that my weight loss will stop on its own-and I am okay with that.

My ultimate goal is to get to 160. I was down 27lbs at my 1st checkup and I am down 52 lbs so I feel that at 2.5 months my weight loss is consistent. I really don't have any explicit small goals but I said I want to be 215 by mid month which puts me at 60lbs lost and I want to be a 12 by the time I go to the Bedroom Kandin convention in Atlanta in August. I am exercising and trying make sure I am doing everything the doctor said. I really just wanted to lose 115lbs total and I did not think it would be this fast but I am almost halfway to my goal.

    8 month goal- 185 lbs (Conquered 11.5.2014, 12 days before I hit 8 months)
    12 month goal-175 lbs (Conquered 3.5.2014, 12 days before I hit 12 months)
Final goal- 170 lbs. (2 lbs to this goal)

    103 lbs lost... I ROCK!!!!!!!!!

Monthly weight loss goals are simply trying to set yourself up for failure... I look more at how I feel, how much total I've lost, how much more I want to lose and then also at the inches that I've lost. The thing is, you will lose like you are supposed to, but what happens when you hit that 6 week stall? If you set "monthly" goals, you will inevitably not achieve some of them. I look at the fact that I can buy clothes off the shelf at Sears, and the 18 inches I've lost from my waist as the wins and motivation to keep on keeping on.
