Default Pre-existing conditions ; parasomnia ; scared surgery won't work

Hi all I'm looking at have a sleeve but I have just found out the reason I have gained over 10 kg in 12 months and can't loose any weight is because I have parasomnia in the form of 6/7 nightmares a night 3/4 I remember vividly, which makes me have anxiety and stress in my sleep causing high cortisol level which is high insulin and glucose being released but beacause I'm asleep and not up and about it doesn't burn off like it should and stores as fat (yes I put on weight in my sleep) I really want surgery as I have tried over 20 diets gyms etc in the last 15 years and this is my last resort, but am so afraid that it won't work since I have this sleep disorder. It's not being bad I eat healthy and walk/exercise 5 days a week it's my stupid dreams that's making me fat my doc has put me on sleeping pills like stilnox to try and block out the dreams and I'm having hypnosis but they don't seem to make much difference
Of anyone has any advice please let me know

There are therapies you can go through to help with the parasomnia. I'm not in the medical field, but I know that good sleep is essential to good health from personal experience. My NP says that sometimes we don't have enough melatonin in our systems to last the entire night. I'm not sure the sleeve will help with your particular condition but I know that there are things that will. Sometimes you have to do your own investigating, but luckily with the internet that's a breeze.

You've done all the diets and exercise and if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't. I know for sure it didn't work for me. My sleeve has been a second chance at life.

    Hi Brooke,

Because the sleeve changes your hormonal make-up, I tend to think it will help you. While your condition is rare, excess weight gain caused or aggravated by chronic cortisol secretion (secondary to stress) is as common as dirt. I reckon most of us have it.

I think it's very likely that you would benefit from the sleeve. Also think that Stillnox is not the drug of choice for this condition (but then I don't know you and your overall medical situation). Melatonin might be kinder.

    Warm wishes,

    Nel
