Hi everyone. My name is Emma and I'm 24 years old. I aboslutely did not want to make this post, but was encouraged to. On May 27th 2014, I am scheduled for to have the sleeve gastrectomy procedure done. Today, I was notifed that I have an out of pocket expense of 929.35. I'm not really sure why they decided to tell me this four days before surgery, but they did. Leaving me shocked and confused. I am kind of at a loss, and though I absolutely hate asking people for money - especially strangers, maybe something amazing will come out of this.

So with encouragement from other sleevers, I have been encouraged to make a GoFundMe page. I feel embarrassed having to ask for money, as I did this to myself, getting to be the weight I am now, so I am responsible. If you have any questions, or just want to talk, please feel free to message me.

Did you talk to them about a payment plan? How about Carecredit? Healthcare and Medical Financing for Consumers | CareCredit™ They are sometimes available for out of pocket expenses. You have to apply. Your out of pocket is less than many on here. Hopefully you can get this situated.

My surgeons's office and hospital was willing to make payments. I would contact them to make payment arrangements? I was really lucky that my surgery was covered in full.

My hospital allowed me to make payments after making a good faith downpayment. My out of pocket is $1200. I made a $200 dp, with monthly payments of $85. It can't hurt to ask!

I'm sorry they told you so far into your process. I had to take $5600 out of my retirement account and that is with insurance coverage. My coverage has a super high deductible. Sucks, but had to make it happen for me.

You will get the money one way or another, it may not be in time for the surgery but God has a plan. He is in control and will provide in his perfect timing.

My insurance doesn't cover it so I took out a loan for $15000.00.
Sorry they waited to tell you so close to surgery but talk to the hospital and see about a hardship or payment plan.

I was scheduled to have surgery may 20th on the 19th they called me and told me they had to rescheduled to June 3rd... NO can't be ... My insurance changes May 31 and I would have to start my deductible all over. They were able to reschedule it for May 30 5:30 a.m. I just found out my final amount is $1596.00 and I have to have it when I get to the hospital. Well to top everything last night my granddaughter was driving my car and it stopped on her while exiting the freeway.. Had to have it towed and repaired to the tune of $849.00 so now I have to figure out how to get back up to my deductible !!!! Life is so much fun!! Good luck to you!

I think most of us wish you luck but will be unable to help since as you can see most of us had to come up with a lot on our own. Mine was also $15,000, not to mention all the major complications I've had and hospital stays. Good luck to you in your journey!

Best of luck to you. I would ask if they accept payments. I cannot believe they waited to tell you, that is crazy! My clinic was up front from day one at the information session.
