    Default Today's NSV

I knew this was coming for a while now, but it's official. I got the job! It's a promotion from where I currently am and doing something I think I'm going to be really awesome at. It comes with a decent pay increase (especially for my company) and a bump to my bonus checks. The reason this is a VGS NSV is that my boss is incredibly image conscious and would have passed me over on the basis of my weight a year ago. It makes me mad, but it's a fact of life.

Anyway I'm traveling next week so I may or may not be around. The new job starts 6/8 so obviously I'm really excited that it starts so soon, especially since I've been doing that job, plus half of a peer who's on disability plus the job I was doing before. It'll be nice to do one thing, especially one that I'm really going to like.

I'm happy that you got the job, but sad to read some people are actually being passed over for jobs based on weight.

Congratulations! I totally agree with CookieHead but a win is a win. Hopefully you blow your bosses mind and he will regret not having promoted you much earlier.

Congrats!! I have been passed over promotions plenty of times because of weight and the fact I was learning disabled and the sad part is. my boss is obese as well. Im disabled right now but there is a possibility to go back to work. I was a pharmacy technician and with the medical problems I have cause of my weight they felt it jusitified to get rid of me and I worked in a hospital. I don't know what the future will hold since I would be 3 yrs out of the workforce and ill be 40 soon

Sometimes others, and I'd admit, I'm guilty of it too, will go day in and day out, see the same people every day, and not notice them because of beingI wrapped up in their own world. When an individual makes a change, a radical change, then they are noticed. It's only human nature. Fat people are perceived to be lazy, don't have any care of self image, so it's easy to write off without knowing someone because of the perception of being lazy. Losing weight, a lot of it, appears to all as being extremely motivated, and concerned about self image. It's a boost in ones life. I am confident that your outlook on life has changed and you now appear more optimistic about your future. People pick up on these things, even your boss. People start saying good things about you, and upper management look at you as a vital asset to their team and will need to offer you something to keep you around. They perceive you have stepped up your performance and cannot afford to lose you, and want your energy directed at the companies success. It's only natural for humans and upper management to think this way. Continue to excel and use it to you advantage. Could it be stereotypical? Definitely. Why do you think all the gorgeous women always seem to come out to be famous singers, actors, news reporters, in positions of great value? It's all based on perception and the willingness of a boss to put in more effort into that person based only on his or her perception.

    I hope this makes sense....
