Hello Ben, all I can say is I wish I would have done it a long time ago. I have not had any problems at all. I was not even nervous about the surgery and everything went well. I will say I'm a slow loser. But I'm okay with losing slow. I hope you make the change. If you have any questions the people are awesome on this site.

Hi Ben, welcome aboard! I'm 39, have been overweight my entire adult life and decided to go for the surgery now, well before I had any health problems. I've lost 30lbs since starting my pre-op diet a month ago and I'm starting to see the figure beneath the flab. I've been exercising since 1 1/2 weeks post op, but before that did no exercise at all since a good year ago. The op was easy, just one incision that was a bit sore but I was totally healed by two weeks post op. I haven't had any cravings, felt denied food, or feel I'm missing out on anything - totally unlike any diet I've ever been on! I just look forward to figuring out my next meal and varying what I eat.

This site was instrumental in helping me make up my mind to have surgery. The best bit is that we've all been there, we understand, and everyone supports each other. I've never been one to join online forums but this place really is awesome! Good luck with your research. Oh, and you can eventually eat anything you like, just not much of it. You'll probably just find that you simply choose not to of your own accord :-)

Welcome Ben! You have gotten a lot of feedback on your post and I am going to say that I too wish I had done this sooner. Much sooner. I obsessed with youtube prior to my surgery. I wanted to see everyone's before and afters, I watched videos of the actual procedure. I was ridiculous. I have had no complications. I can eat anything now. I choose not to eat certain things... Sweets, fried foods and soda is all out of my new lifestyle. I do have breads, pasta and rice on occasion but I am not satisfied with them. I stick to protein and I have a new found love for skim milk... It is all very strange and foreign to me. This journey is amazing and am so glad that you are looking into making some very brave choices about getting your health in check. You take care of so many people everyday, it's time to take care of you. Good luck and welcome aboard!

Thank you all so much for the quick responses and feedback. I know the road ahead of me is not going to be quick or easy, but I think I'm in a great place mentally to tackle it!

Bonnie, thank you so much for the recommendation on the book! It's ordered and on it's way.

Again, thank you all so much for being here for a complete stranger in such a complex period of my life.

So Ben, I just have to ask (forgive me)... You refer to yourself as a big man, and your name is Ben... Does that make you big Ben?

Hi Ben, I can only encourage you to have the surgery. It is life altering. I had mine in September in Tijuana Mexico, the cost was minimal and the results are incredible. I think I am also a slow loser but am down 63 pounds and I feel like a new person and 20 years younger! It's scary to think about but relatively painless and just think, by the end of the year you could be down over 50 pounds, men lose so much faster than women darn it!
    Good luck and keep reading.
    Julie

    Mary,

    Maybe not for long.

I've been called Big Ben and Big Guy and all of that for years... Then again, I am 6'4", so they COULD be talking about my height... LOL

It's the best thing I've done.after doing all the research I told 1 person went to the classes make sure u hv a certified dr and facility. U hv nothing to lose if u weigh 400 lbs u may eventually have problems anyway. I had a good surgeon any time I had any negative he said life has no guarantees he was right .
