One idea...see if you have a catastrophic protection clause. Many policies do an that sets a maximum out of pocket that you would have to pay in a single year. I hope this helps. Good luck!

for those that suggest mexico... any recommendations

I think the way my plan is written the bariatric surgery is an exclusion to the yearly max limit.

For considerably less in us... where?

$23,000 (twenty-three thousand) ?? AFTER insurance. Ummm...that is basically not covering the surgery.

I went to Dr. Nicholson in Dallas and paid $12,200 (with airfare and meds, probably close to $13,500-$14,000). He's an excellent surgeon by the way and I couldn't find a single bad thing about him....PM me if you need more info. I don't subscribe to every thread and don't always remember to check back.

    Good luck.

That is utterly ridiculous! I think the total for EVERYTHING was around $25,000 for my surgery. I just had to pay my out of pocket of $5,000 and the rest was 100% covered. I have BCBS. I hate insurance companies.

After i already went to preop testing at another location and paid the new location., then the insurance precert person from dr risso's office in Charleston said since they are in network the doctors portion would be 1,000 instead of 8,000 but she couldnt tell me about any other cost such as hosp, RD, testing ect. I will be paying 12,000 self pay at the new location in Charlotte, NC but they have their shit together. They sent me a break down of cost before first appointment.

My insurance is BCBS but my employer sets the specifics and they only cover 50% up to 10,000
