    Default Shopping for protein drinks...question

Ok, so I am trying different protein drinks in anticipation of the liquid diet -- or do I already have that wrong and it's really going to be more of a clear liquids diet???

Anyway, what kind of guidelines did your doctor give you? I am not that far yet, I guess, but just curious. I found one that was 42g of protein and I was, like, WOW! That's perfect! Yeah, well when I got home, I realized they have 300 calories, 20g carbs and 7g fat! So, right now, that is still better than what I have been eating in the past, so I'm going to go ahead and use them for meal replacement right now, but I know that they won't cut it when the liquid diet begins or after the surgery either. They don't taste too bad, but then again, with stats like those, it's no wonder!

Oops, I guess I put this in the wrong area. Sorry about that. I'd move it if I could / knew how.

Lots of carbs in that one. And is the protein 2 scoops? Companies love saying 2 scoop amounts on the label. I use body fortress. 30 grams only 7 grams of carbs. It's good. Add an oz of banana and it's definitely drinkable. Cheap at 16.00 for 2 lbs too.

These were bottles -- well, those carton-like bottles. I'll have to try Body Fortress. Thanks!

I would try looking at different types. Most people find that the protein drinks they like before they don't like after. Your taste preference will change. What worked for me was having several different types of smaller or sample sizes to try after surgery and then once I found one I liked I bought a larger container. The protein drink I chose was a powder and 25g of carbs but I then I mixed it with 8oz milk and it was 33g. So you can also add milk to increase your protein. I would be cautious of protein ready made drinks that are high protein. Read the lable cafefully to know what you are actually getting. Most have higher carbs. Good luck.

mine had to be less than 5 grams of fat and sugar and be between 20-35 grams for powder, they didn't say anything about carbs.
