Smile 1 year and 9 months later...questions arise!

I have not lost any further weight in 6 months. Despite exercising consistently - 45 mins on an elliptical trainer and strength training 3-4 times a week. I did get lax in my diet and my diabetes A1C jumped from 5.3 to 6.3. I'm back to watching what I eat. I need to lose 20lbs to be at my ideal/goal weight.

    Here are my questions:
    1. How do I jump start my weight loss again?

    2. How do I stop the night hunger from occurring?

Make sure you're getting enough calories and protein in to fuel your body while doing your normal exercise routine. If you burn too much, Your metabolism may go into store mode and keep the weight stalled. Try adding a little healthy fat to your food. Something like coconut oil or avocado.
    Good luck!!

I journal my food intake with sparkpeople app (I love it). My food intake averages between 1200-1500 calories a day, focusing on high protein, low carbs. Carbs wreck my blood sugar.

From what I have read, you may want to stay closer to 1200 with 80 - 100 grams of protein. Remember - those new muscles weigh more than your fat did. Do you take your measurements? That may be the real question.

    Hang in there - Bonnie

How tall are you, what's your BMI? Is 120 a truly realistic ideal weight for you?

As it happens, I ended up under my goal weight because that's where my body evened out (I didn't change my eating and exercise), but I had very much come to terms with the idea that if my ultimate weight was a bit higher than I had envisaged, I would still celebrate it as a massive achievement for my health.

I think if I had lots of indicators that with eating right and exercising my body was going to settle on a slightly higher weight than I had intended - I'd adjust my expectation and be happy with that.

    My BMI is 25.6 - which is still overweight. I'm 5' 2".

Sure - but you only need to lose 3lb to be within the healthy weight range for your height! 120 would put you at 21.9, which is in the lower half of the healthy weight range. Why did you pick 120 as your goal out of interest?

Have you looked at other indicators such as body fat percentages? If you're doing lots of exercise, you might be heavier at a healthy size/weight because of greater density from being more muscular.

Personally, I wouldn't have felt that I failed if my weight loss had stopped with a BMI of 25.6. Interestingly, a CDC study which reviewed a bunch of other studies found that a BMI within the overweight range may extend your lifespan.

If you didn't own a scale, do you think you'd view yourself as overweight now?

Excellent points Niamh Dyanne4293 looks great in her picture. Sometimes we have unrealistic ideas about what the number should be on the scale when there are so many other factors.
