    Yay - another Aussie! Welcome!

I used to eat to the point that I physically could not swallow another bite but still felt hungry.... Now I can feel 'sort of' hungry but it's gone within 3 bites. Head hunger can be dealt with using water alone but I need to remember that, not just know it. Before I would go to Maccas and buy a large Big Mac Meal to eat at home and a Fillet of Fish to eat on the way home. Now (at 4 months out) I've experimented and I can eat about 3/4 of the bottom section (bottom bun, sauce, meat, no top bun) of a Big Mac and about 5 fries. That leaves the equivalent of a cheese burger left over from the entire Big Mac (the entire top section). Then you have to chew the meat quite well and trust me, when you thoughtfully eat Maccas, it no longer feels good. The texture is gross. You learn fairly quickly that there isn't much point.

It was nothing to eat an entire large packet of Burger Rings or Cheese and Bacon Balls. Those things you still have to be careful of because they slide right through your sleeve. Anything slightly dense fills you up vey quickly though.

Now - I eat mainly rare roasted eye-fillet beef cut into bite size pieces. Just the meat with a different flavouring on the outside for change. At the moment it's lemon pepper. I've found cookies & Cream Quest bars - need to order into Aus from USA- are a great snack for when I'm craving sweet during the day. Again, I dice them up into small bite size pieces. Gives me an extra 20 grams of protein and few calories. Feels way too naughty to be that good for you but it is. I also love lady finger bananas and Chobani yoghurt - it has the most protein in it. I do drink OJ and protein powder every now and then but am trying to get away from that.

My occasional naughty treat now is about 1/2 a cup of ice-cream with Milo on it or two pieces of dark chocolate with a cup of tea after dinner.

I over ate this morning - half a mini quiche and ....just one bite over - It feels dreadful, like you are dying!!!! I lay on the couch and felt ill for about 40mins, with the food feeling like it was stuck in my throat. When you eat too much after the sleeve you sure know about it and you only have to look at another bite of food and feel sick. I think I've done it for the day now...will be sticking to fluids! It is ridiculous (-ly amazing), how little I can eat now. I'm still in the 'getting to know my sleeve' stage, but am so thrilled with how little I think about food now in the day and how easy it is to be satisfied with something small. Just don't have that one bite too many....arrggghhh horrible feeling!

Wow, this is a great thread. I can relate to the hiding of evidence such as candy bar wrappers and the use of cash. It definitely is an addiction. I notice a theme with the McDonalds drive thru, soda consumption and candy. It's also interesting how many people comment that they would still feel hungry after overeating. McDonalds and diet soda have a ton of chemicals that likely causes this response.

The good news is that it all changes with the sleeve. You will be shocked at how different you will feel!

I was very much a "meat and potatoes" sort of girl. I just overate a LOT at meals. I was not a grazer and never will be. But when meal time came? WATCH OUT.

I don't think my choices were all THAT horrible (even if they weren't that great) but what made me big was that I'd just eat TOO much. It was more of that than anything. Scrambled eggs? I would put away 3 platefuls easy. Chicken curry with rice? I could eat 3 helpings. I didn't eat fast food that much but yeah, I would eat too much if I got it. I just ate too much in general!

I still eat scrambled eggs and chicken curry today, just not in the quantities that I did before. I have modified my diet so it's healthier stuff, more high-protein stuff. Like yogurt. I rarely ate yogurt pre-surgery. Now I eat 1 Greek yogurt a day.

Wow, reading this makes me feel so much more normal, if that is possible. Hate that these eating habits are normal for anyone, but that's why there are so many of us struggling with our weight! I am planning on first or second week of June for my surgery, in Mexico. I have been reading and reading and you tubing videos on all of this trying to be more prepared. I think about food all the time, I'm hungry all the time and thats always been a struggle! Now Im thinking with every meal out, or every splurge, that man, this is going to be different. Can I do it?! Im trying to think more about WHY Im eating, and I think sometimes its stress, and sometimes boredom. I've heard some saying therapy and counseling to deal with these issues are good, but I know Im not likely to do that. As I've been struggling with depression for 7 years now and find it very hard to get therapy for that. I pray that my sleeve will cure some of this, by not letting me eat as I do, eating for no reason really. I know its not a fix all, but I am really thinking a lot about all of this ahead of time. So many things will be different post sleeve.

Donna's typical day-wake up around 10AM drink 32 ounces of very sweet tea, then eat a bowl (almost 2 cups) of cereal and drink the whole milk, much on this and that then get ready to go to work! At 2PM I hit the convenience store and buy a chicken salad sandwich, lg bag of BBQ chips, 2 family size candy bars and maybe a cup of donut holes then a bag of blueberry sugar coated almonds because they are good for you and my 44oz Dr Pepper. Ok now at work after the sandwich I am already out of Dr Pepper so I send an officer to get me another and specify only half a cup of ice (so my cup will hold even more sugary goodness) evening shift is usually pretty hectic and crazy and in a couple of hours I am thirsty again so my officers bring me anoth Dr Pepper! By 10 PM I have eaten all my food that I brought and yes...I send my officer for 1 more 44oz Dr Pepper. I head home at 11PM wide awake...from the caffiene maybe? And raid the fridge of any and all leftovers maybe eat a pint of ice cream and have another huge glass of sweet tea. Some nights I would even bake cookies and EAT A WHOLE DOZEN!
Yes I am a stress eater and I eat when I am bored! So I decided to get sleeved. in 2 short months I lost 26 pounds just because I stopped going to the store before work. I bring a sandwich without the mayo and on wheat bread, carrots instead of potato chips, no candy and water with flavor drops. Now as I am on my liquid pre op diet I look back at what I used to do and wonder why I am still alive and not dead from a heart attack! I am shocked at how easy it has been to quit my junk food habit! I even quit smoking!!! Its easy because I know I will be healthy and I already feel better without all that crap food weighing me down!

gleek, you can't believe it now, but when you are sleeved, you will not be interested in food at all. In the beginning, even the smell of food is repulsive. You will develop a totally different relationship with food. If you overeat, you FEEL IT, and it does not feel good. The best thing about the sleeve is that you have built in portion control.

Before the sleeve, I have to say that I did not eat a lot. I did Weight Watchers for years, and still always weighed and measured my food. I don't drink sodas, and never fast food. My problem? My thyroid/metabolism. My thyroid was such that even with changing meds as often as my doctor did, every year, I was putting on between 5-10 pounds. I didn't have BP problems or any other health problems, I was just fat. However, my family is riddled with BP, cholesterol and heart problems, and I did not want that to happen to me. In addition, mentally, the weight was literally holding me back and I was turning into a recluse. The sleeve is the best thing that has ever happened to me. In three short months I feel better, I look better, and my outlook is much brighter.

Wow, I WISH the sleeve stopped my interest of food, but honestly, I was watching Food Network the week I got home with drool coming out of my mouth! lol. I still LOVE food. I just can't eat as much as I used to. Like Katherine, I am not really a grazer. I just eat way too much when I do, esp if it is something I like and I generally am picky enough that it is always something I really like. I ate for all the reasons mentioned above and sometimes, I still do, just not as much. As I have said before, it is still a battle, but one I would rather fight with my sleeve than without.

You are not alone. I'm on the pre-op diet now but I am always hungry.

In the past I could go to a restaurant and eat - bread with butter, part of an appetizer, my entire entree, and dessert. While downing about two Diet Cokes. This was on top of whatever I had had for breakfast and lunch. Sometimes for dinner I would make a box of spaghetti and my husband and I would eat it all in one sitting. Then an hour later be hungry and snack. Have made frozen pizza at 2AM.

I am struggling with the pre-op diet because all of those habits are very hard to overcome. But I have surprised myself with how well I'm sticking to it. And I'm looking forward to not being so hungry in the future and more in control of my stomach instead of letting it control me!
