Back in the Swing of It!!!!

It's been a while (almost 5 - 6 months) since I've posted anything or been on the site. At the beginning of my journey, I had decided not to let anyone other than my husband, son, and daughter know what I was doing. If you didn't live in my home, then you didn't need to know what I was doing. And boy, I have to say that was the best decision I made because it allowed me to take my weight loss journey at my own slow pace and not trip when I hit a few stalls. Also, I didn't need or want anyone in my head.....we all have the friends and/or family members who always have something to say if they know another 'diet" is in the works. Boy, if they can be so opinionated about Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig, I could only imagaine what they would have said about WLS. Anyway, the outcome of my decision to not share was the best thing. I'm doing good and feeling great. During my time, I've come to finally understand that this is not a race but a life change. I've come to understand my body's needs and really was able to get in-touch with head hunger vs. real hunger. This journey is still unfolding and as I continue on my quest towards my desired weight goal, I know that this was worth it.

Congrats on the weightloss! thats amazing. I did the same thing because people can be so mean. My Family knows and my boss. Im a little over 1 week post op.

That's great! You'll be successful because you already did the hardest part which was deciding to have the surgery!!!! Good luck to you!

I also chose not to tell. A gossip at work is really trying to find out if I had a bypass. I just say I am on a high protein diet when people ask. It's nobody's business.
That said, someone on these forums said I was a fraud for not telling people. I think not sharing medical information is my choice and I am not a fraud for my decision.

Good for you. I chose not to tell anyone either. My husband knows and kids and then my sister. I didn't want to hear that this was the easy way out or that she failed at everything so she took this way no wonder she lost so much weight. It's a life time change and I it hasn't been easy. I still want to eat bad sometimes. It's been a struggle but I would never say I wish I had not done it. I am so thankful that I chose this way to live my life. I can now do things that I never thought I would again and off all my medications. I am so much more healthier and feel great. I have a girl at work that I know she is dying to know but she is so jealous she hasn't even said anything about my weight loss and believe me you can tell when someone loses 75lbs. lol I just laugh because I know she is dying to know but she will never know. I did have hiatal hernia surgery and that's all she knows. I was out for 3 days and back to work.

That's wonderful. I'm glad you listened to your inner voice and did what's important for you. That's a big a step for most of us as the weight itself. May you continue your fantastic journey!

Anyone who says Gastric sleeve is the easy way out doesn't know what they're talking about, I realised before I made the decision to do the surgery that this was one of the obstacles (in my mind) - that I was somehow 'cheating'...well I'm almost a week out and it is very very difficult - to follow the diet, to get enough protein in you, to deal with the gastro intestinal crap that goes on.

I've only told my family and one close friend...I don't think I'll tell people altho if someone I know was really obese, I'd take him to one side and advise him (if all goes well with me!) to do the surgery.

I mean if you didn't do the surgery and you ate exactly the same amount of food and quantities, you would still lose the same amount of weight right? We're all just essentially going on a diet - except this one, you get a little help from the sleeve.

Don't see anything wrong with that.

To welchum: I struggle with this all of the time. The good in me wants to take them by the hand and say "hey" you can do this.......but I don't because it's really hard to know how someone is going to respond. People are just too sensitive these days.

To jessiejess: Like I said when I first joined this site and someone said I was a fool for not telling people....my response then and still is.....I'm not one to tell my personal business because it's just that........personal. If I don't sit around and tell my girlfriends how many times me and my husband are imtimate, what makes them think I'm going to discuss something that equally as personal and imtimate. Making the decision to have WSL isn't something that you jump into without deep consideration for all that you have to subject yourself to. Those that need to know, know!!!
