    Default Slow losing..

I have had surgery about 11 months ago..I lost only about fifty pounds since then. I followed the program to a tee from the start and only lost 8 pounds for each month for about three months and once the dietician said to eat 800-1000 calories a day I stopped losing..I have had a hard winter not getting to exercise much..I am older and not much energy or stamina..I am now doing better with exercise at planet fitness several times a week..I eat the same amount but have had some bad choices..along the way..Trying really hard now not to touch bread or carbs..I do my pre op diet but not the veggies burgers..My taste is lacking in some foods taste nasty and I desire crunchy or salty but also like sugar..Had no sugar for two years..I only use stevia for sweetner and have had a few sugar free candies but no liking them..I don't buy sugar stuff..I think the shakes help and do juicing veggies too..It is night that I want to eat while watching tv..All day I am good..Does anyone else find food tasting blah or nasty and do you want to munch..I do have a few nuts, eat raw veggies during the day..I guess it is mental..and I need focusing on the goal of getting more weight off..It is frustrating not losing a pound after trying so hard..I use to lose weight fast..I lost fifty five pounds prior and fifty post surgery..What do you think?

Hello. I am not sure where you started weight wise or where you hope to be but believe me, you have plenty of company with slow losing. I have wondered at times if all the weight lost gearing up for the surgery was partially responsible. I am only at 5 months - and have lost just slightly under what your weight loss has been, but I, too, lost some weight in the 1 1/2 years leading up to this decision. (I am about 73 pounds down from my highest) - I often hear about others in the same time frame & wonder how our bodies can be so different and the losses so different. But honestly, even though it is a bit frustrating, I look at my body and even if I never lost another pound, I would feel this decision was the best one ever. I don't have to shop in the plus departments, am more confident, feel healthier etc. I would still like to lose another 25 pounds but even if it is a pound here & there, I am ok because I feel confident it won't go up again if I continue to listen to my sleeve. It does, however, not make any sense to me at all how we can be eating between 800-1000 cal a day (with or without exercise) and not continue to lose. I continue to follow the program/recommendations to a "t" - steering away from unhealthy choices & eating my protein first, forgoing bread/pasta/rice except for the rare "bite", pretty much eating cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, chicken, salmon, etc. - it simply does not make sense to me how we can NOT lose. so I plug on. :-) When in doubt though, I don't hesitate to call my dietitian, or my doctor with concerns & questions. (why guess ? they are there to help & want us successful!) continued good health to you!!

You are on very low calories, Lindy Jo. You might lose more on higher calories.
If you are exercising as well, you must get pretty tired.
I would talk to the dietician about putting your calories up now and then.
Also recommended popcorn for salt cravings in the evening.
Congrats on your weight loss so far.

Have you considered going to the next step. I though you could move to a full bypass after doing the sleeve if you were not satisfied with how your body was handling the change. I would feeeling quitting with only 800 calories this far out.

Sometimes we don't look at the whole picture! 50 lbs lost is a VERY GOOD THING! Try going into the supermarket and picking up 10 bags of 5 lb bags of sugar. You walked around with all of that weight and to be free of it after 11 month (+/-) is a good thing. I have to agree with others that your calorie count is low. I was told as your body drops weight, your calorie intake should increase (especially if you are exercising as well). You should talk to your doctor and discuss your concerns about your diet, the amount of calories you are taking in, and your overall feelings. Remember, you get out what you put in.....negative thoughts create negative outcomes! Be positive about what you've accomplished thus far, and try hard to make beter choices when the 'crunch crave' comes knocking at your door. Like someone else posted, popcorn makes a great choice because you can season it you your liking. This isn't suppose to be a quick fix but a life change..........Good luck to you!

I think that some of us read stories of people who lose so much more than us, and we feel inferior. I talked to my nutrition about this, and she helped me put my slow losing in perspective. Since my surgery in January, I've been losing 10 lbs a month. I simply can't exercise as I have chronic pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia. I have a sedentary lifestyle. I was reminded that I had 100 lbs to lose, and losing 10 a month, I would reach my goal by Christmas. I can live with that.

If it takes you two years to shed the weight, so be it. I realize that's not what you expected. Just saying that perhaps you can redefine your expectations. Good luck in your weight loss journey. You're doing the best you can.
I see Onederland on the far horizon. I'll be there soon.

I was sleeved in September and have lost exactly 50 lbs. My problem was that I forgot this surgery was only a tool in my weight loss and if I put my "tool" in the shed and did not use it then I wouldnt see any results. I stopped bad carbs all together and exercise 6 days a week for at least 45 of cardio. I stay away from sugar refined foods and I drink tons of water. I still have a protein shake after I come home from the gym. I started all this ten days ago and have lost 10 lbs in 10 days. It works but you have to just keep trying. I was choosing the wrong foods. Hope this helped. Good luck!!
by the way 50 lbs is AMAZING!!!

Wow glad you are doing so well..I am going to try harder..I get frustrated by eating the same foods and most of them don't taste that good..I take the vitamens and do the shakes, yogurt, salads every day..I get in my protein and still feel like I want carbs at times..I fight off urges..I have been homebound most of the winter..Hoping getting outside will help and get away from the house more..Planet fitness, walking my street, and swimming in the pool this summer should help with activities..it should turn around I hope..Thanks for helping me..

There is no re sleeve..They took out eighty percent of my stomach..You can get no more surgery as you won't have a stomach..You choose the sleeve or the roux en y..Lapbands are being called back and lots of surgeons wont perform them anymore..I can't eat much..I am older 66 and need to get out walking more. It will come off in time..so long as I can stay away from carbs..Food doesn't taste good to me..It is okay but not really good like it use to taste..I have dry mouth a lot and I drink all the time..I wake up parched and drink water but end up going to the bathroom a few times at night..I think everyone has their own stuff to deal with..It is nice to get support from others..
