    Default Your goal weight

My doctors (primary care) always told me well you should be 130 lbs for your height and age. So my goal is 150 because I think its healthy and I think it will keep me motivated to eat healthy and keep active. Did any of you have doctors who wanted you to be "the average weight"? My doctor also told me she tells patients they need to do something even if they are 10 lbs over the average.

My surgeon wants me to hit a goal weight of a BMI of 29 which is about 170 for my size. Thing is I have small features and I feel like I'm supposed to be small. I chose 140 for myself since that's in the middle of 'healthy' BMI. We'll have to see once I get down there though since eventually my body will get to where it wants to be and I'll probably stop at that time. My main goal is health. I've come so far already it's exciting. I can't wait to get under 200, which was really my personal goal from the beginning. After that is cake

According to the BMI chart, my "best weight" would be 135-145. My goal weight is 165 though and my doctor said that it was a perfectly reasonable goal and thinks I'll reach it if I just keep doing what I'm doing.

My ideal weight according to the BMI chart is 104 to 141. AS IF! My goal is 150. My doctor recommended this goal. If I can get there, then I will see about trying for the BMI range but it is not setting my goals for me. I will see how I look and feel at 150 and decide what to do from there.

My PCP actually told me that some people were just meant to be fat! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? Needless to say, I'm seriously considering a new PCP. My gyno was actually the one that pushed the surgery and the ONLY dr I've ever had to be concerned with my weight/overall health. When I had my initial consult in January with my surgeon, he said a good goal would be between 160-170 (I'm 5'7"). Of course, that could change the closer we get to surgery and our final meeting pre-op. At my lowest weight, I was 126#, but that was at the age of 17 and I was running up and down a basketball court for hours and hours 5-6 days a week! I was around 163 when I got married nearly 20 years ago. Good luck to all of you!

My gyno, in addition to my parents, encouraged me to get this surgery. I didn't even have him as a gyno that long either. He was just concerned about my health and told me to look into it. He even wrote the letter of approval for my insurance and I was approved.

I think the BMI model is a good 'rough estimate' but it's not 100% correct for 100% of everyone. It doesn't take into account muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. Someone who works out and is more muscular is going to weigh a little more but still be very healthy!

I am now in the 'normal' range per my BMI, but I know I will feel better to lose this last 15 lbs. I will still be within the 'normal' BMI range, but will be happy to be rid of the last bit.

I will see how I feel from that point.

My doctor wanted me at 145 but I chose 140 and I have to tell you I do look fine at 145 even though it is not considered healthy BMI,just right above 25 on the chart. But I think a weight loss, no matter how much, is healthy. So aim for your goal and good luck!

Made/Michigan, never lost or heard of anyone losing teeth. That is a new one for me. However, I lost A LOT of hair, but hey, it's just hair and it is growing back nicely and has a bit more curl then before!

My doctor thinks 150-160 is a good target for me. If I have the Will power an body will cooperate, my personal goal is 135-140. I can't see myself maintaining the muscle tone in my lower leg, calves and biceps at a weight lower than that.
