    Question Crashing on pre-op!!!

I'm on day 4 of my liquid pre-op diet and today was NOT good! I went out this morning for about 2 hours and by the time I got home I was disoriented and so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open. I immediately fixed a protein shake and took a nap but when I woke up I still didn't feel good. My husband made me drink a can of chicken broth with finally brought me back to life. I'm not a diabetic but it almost seemed like I was having low sugar today. I'm trying so hard to stick with this liquid diet. Has anybody else had this problem and can you give me advice on how to prevent this from happening again? Thanks!

I had a couple of days where I felt kind of "not with the program" and I had popsicles. I'll be honest in that they were not sugar-free but regular popsicles. Between the broth, protein drinks, and popsickles, I was fine.

Hang in there! This is tough but plenty of others have done it and you can do it too! If you don't mind, it won't matter!

Speaking as a former diabetic, weight loss due to surgery seems to have taken care of it for now, I dont think you were having a Low Sugar Episode as you stated. The reason I am saying this is Chicken Broth would not have taken care of low sugar. You do know that one of the symptoms of dehydration resembles low sugar. You can become disoreintate to the point of dizziness. You might be on a liquid diet but that does not mean that you are getting enough fluids. I know when I was on my liquid diet I had a bad side effect called diarehea and if that is the case then you need to drink even more liquids. IF it happens again I would speak to my surgical team. Not all Dr. require the full liquid diet for 2 weeks prior but if yours does then surely he will have suggestions on how to stop the dizziness.

Those first few days of the pre-op diet were the hardest part of the entire surgical process for me. I really think my body thought I was trying to kill us, so it was reacting accordingly to conserve energy ... it gets better I promise! My pre-op diet was one scrambled egg for breakfast, 3 shake/protein bar suppliments (2 snack and one for lunch) then 4oz lean meat and 1/2 c. veggies for dinner but I ended up drinking beef/chicken broth a lot throughout the day, it seemed like it "tricked" my body into thinking it was getting the extra nutrients it wanted and kept me on track with my diet. You'll get through this part of it, what comes next over the upcoming months is amazing and absolutely worth it!! Hang in there!!

Day 4 pre-op and day 4 post-op were the hardest for me. You got this. Hang in there.
