Default Decided on Sleeve, Have to Lose 50 LBS!!!!

I recently decided to get the gastric sleeve, I am 419 Lbs with a BMI of 61 and my surgeon said that he wants me to lose 30-50 pounds during my six month insurance required monitored weight loss. I was wondering if anybody has a specific diet that they used that they could share with a newcomer??? I would greatly appreciate it!

    Thank you!

I didn't follow a certain diet but here's the main things that helped me out. FYI, I went to my seminar in October (5 months before my surgery which is next week). In 5 months I have lost 33 lbs, 26 of those were just since January 1st. My starting weight was 347, I'm at 314 as of this morning.

I decided this surgery is part of a new lifestyle I need to lead, not a quick fix. I started learning how many calories was in everything I was eating. I became much pickier as far as what might be worth the extra calories. I cut out most pasta, bread and soda. I've eaten out several times and don't always make great choices (pizza buffet) but I try and "make up" for them by eating super light the rest of the day and even the day after. I really am just much more aware of what I'm eating, I've heard it called "mindful eating". Also, starting January 1, I have been pretty good about doing 30 minutes of exercise 2-3 times a week. I'm sure that has helped with the weight loss and it certainly will help make my recovery easier.

Congratulations on deciding on the sleeve, it has already changed my life and my procedure isn't until Wednesday! Good luck with this pre-op period and really use your time well. Learn to live your new life.

I read up on what my eating plan would be post sleeve operation and I started eating that way. I also began cutting down on the amount that I ate. When at a restaurant I would order my meal and ask that a togo box come at the same time. Before I ate anything I put half of the food in the togo box and put it aside. At home I limited myself to one serving. At first I would fill the plate as full as I could fill it, but then I got reasonable and began eating what I thought a normal portion was, then a little less. I also began substituting a protein shake or protein bar for one meal a day.
I did pretty good, I lost about 40 pounds in three and a half months. It also helped after my surgery, I was already in the new frame of mind for eating.

Best of luck to you as you start your journey. There are a lot of people on this forum that can provide lots of information and support, just let us know what you need.
