    Default Help!

I'm needing a kick in the pants. I am on my 2 week Pre-Op Diet right now and having a really hard time with cravings. Food has always been a comfort to me. Any words of wisdom? I want this surgery to work but If I cant even stick to the Pre-Op Diet then how am I going to be successful after? PLEASE HELP!

I started updating a journal with: what type of food was I craving (salt, sweet, etc), what what going on at the time of my craving (stress, boredom, sadness), would the food REALLY make me feel better or would I feel worse after I finished the last bite? It has been VERY hard to address some of the emotional aspects but it's something I've been working on for the past 4 months and hopefully it will help going forward. it is a lot of introspective thinking, but it seems to be working for me.

It gets easier as you go along.

Also, after the surgery, most people struggle to eat, just because of the sleeve. I was a wreck on my pre-op and cheated a little, but since surgery I don't have much of a choice. I ate too fast last night and spent the evening on the couch in pain. It wasn't even that much food.

Pre-op, you are trying to be on a super strict diet without any tool. After surgery, you will be on a less strict lifestyle, but you will have an awesome tool.

    Stop beating yourself up.

I'm on Day 3 of my 7 day pre-op diet and I'm struggling as well, though it has gotten easier from day 1. Hang in there!

The pre op diet is advised so that your liver is healthy and smaller in order to perform surgery. There is a possibility that they will not perform surgery if you have not followed it closely. Also I noticed that the day before my sister's surgery, one of the girls bragged about not following preop diet at all and all the things she was eating. She spent the day of surgery in bed VERY ill, and we didn't see her much for the remainder of the week because how terrible she felt. The rest of the group felt pretty good after surgery. I noticed the same with a girl before and after my surgery as well.

Work hard at following very close preop diet. Its for your own health and safety.

Thank you and this is why I am reaching out on here... I want to be successful and I don't want to go all the way down to Mexico just to be denied because I didn't do my part. I am just having a hard time saying goodbye to the comfort food that has been a part of me for TOO many years. DO you know if a little slip up yesterday (crackers & cheese) could derail what I have been working on? I am a little over a week from surgery... Thank you for your reply!

I don't know about anyone else's pre-op diet, but mine says in the first 3 days I can have a few crackers, 1 or 2 medium fruits or 1 cup of steamed vegetables to help ease the transition into the full liquid diet, but it's only for the first 3 days. After that it's just the full liquid diet.
