I have been at 5 pounds a week and yesterday my surgeon said that was too much and to get my calories up.
First time ever that someone said I was losing too fast, so that was a good feeling.
From just reading this though, you can tell that everyone is different. I wouldn't focus on the weight, just focus on the lifestyle change and the weight will take care of itself. That being said, I love to weigh myself.
Everyone's weight loss is different from day one mine has been weird one week I'll lose like 5 lbs and the next nothing or it could be acouple weeks nothing and then a big jump. I am almost 3 months out and am down 50 lbs I have never lost 50 lbs in a year never mind 3 months. I have slowed down but I am hoping to do at least 10 lbs a month. No matter what your losses it will come off if you stick with the plan GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY😊
Like others have said, everyone is different. You can not compare or you will drive yourself crazy. Just as everyone gains at a different rate, so do we all lose differently! As long as you follow the guidelines you have been given and get some exercise your body will let you know how much it is going to lose and at what rate.
Just a note Nathan, if your body is losing too quickly and you are not eating enough, you will totally go into a stall. It is so bizarre for us to have to eat a little more in order to continue losing!
after the initial rapid loss, most find it hard to lose more than 2 to 3 pounds a week without maniacal exercise routines. It takes a 3500 calorie deficit to lose a pound. Early on you lose fast because there is fluid loss as well as real weight loss because your body holds onto fluid plus as you are "dieting" there is often some dehydration occurring. But later on you will lose weight based on your calorie deficit. So, figure out your bmr (plenty of bmr calculators available on web) subtract your calorie intake and account for calories burned during exercise and you have your deficit. If your calorie consumption gets up to 1200 and your bmr is 1500 and you dont exercise then theoretically you should lose a pound every 11 or 12 days. If you added 200 calories worth of exercise daily that would change it to a pound every 7 days. Make it 400 cals worth of exercise and it would be every 5 days. The formula works pretty well for me. Not necessarily on a daily basis, since there are so many variables in your weight, but definitely on a weekly basis. All bets are off in the early days though because of all the water you are losing. But by the second month you should start to be able to track your daily deficit and somewhat tie it to weight loss (unless one of those dreaded, unexplainable stalls hit).
Thank you everyone! I just wanted to get an idea if I am in the ball park. I didn't think it would slow down this quickly, but that's ok.
It may pick up the pace again if you still have excess fluid. it could be that its (your body) holding onto fluids right now because it senses that is a shortage in the water supply. if this is the case, and you increase your water intake, you could jumpstart the body into releasing more fluid weight. Of course, thats all theory. I'm no doctor. But I do know the body is designed for self preservation and will do what it can to protect itself. Make it feel safe and it will be more accomodating.
Mine varies. Sometimes its been only 3lbs, sometimes its 7lbs.
