Default A sleeve for 60 lbs. Am I insane???

I have been a yoyo dieter for my entire life. I ALWAYS gain it back. Will this surgery help me keep it off? Am I crazy to do this? I kinda had a melt down tonight. I'm going to Mexico by MYSELF to have over 1/2 my stomach removed. What the hell is wrong with me? Am I stupid? Please I REALLY want to know!

As everyon knows yoyo dieting doesn't work. This is a lifestyle change not a diet n use it as a weight loss tool to help keep the weight off.

In the beginning, I used to have the same thoughts because I have lost 87, 80, 45 lbs on my own, yet I wasn't able to keep it off and yo-yo-ing is damaging to your heart, so I didn't want to cause damage to that muscle either. I am choosing to do this because it will help me alleviate my overeating behaviors and YES, I want to finally be done with a behavior that was developed as a child when cleaning your plate was he norm. I still struggle with that today, so I'm gonna need help beyond the surgery I'm sure. With all this being said, consider the effect of yo-yoing and how you feel when you put all that hard earned weight loss right back on.
    Good luck with your choice!

I dont think your crazy.. We all know 60 pounds is easy to take off. I done it several times. Its keeping it off without gaining the 60 plus 10. I think we all have. The yo yo diet that is slowly killing all of us. I wish you the best of luck and dont care about what anyone else thinks. As long as your doing this for you, and for your health, your fine. We, I , wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted on your weight loss success.

I would not have had the surgery to lose 60 pounds. I have not changed that opinion post surgery.

I would not have had this surgery to lose 60. It was a last resort for me. It's always better to lose and keep it off without surgery if possible. However, if being 60 over is causing health concerns (it was not for me), that's a whole other topic. Ultimately only you can decide what is best for your body.

    Dear Megs,
The best quote I can think of is "walk a mile in my shoes". Each and everyone of us has a number......is it being over 200?..300? before we feel justified in having this surgery? If some one would have shown me my future in a crystal ball and said at some point you will be 50....60? pds over weight? and then later on you will hit 120pds over weight? I would have had the surgery at 60 pds overweight! I would have prevented myself from the depressing horror of being obese and everything that comes with it. My point is just this.... you have to make your own choice for your own reasons my friend. Do you think you can lose the 60 on your own and keep it off?... or will it continue to spiral out of control? A hard path to walk, to say the least. Its easy to say it only 60 pds, but most of us here couldn't stop the destructive cycle at 60, hence our decision to have surgery.

We are here for you my friend and you will get a bunch of really good and different view points. Maybe one of them will ring true for you and help guide you. Take your time sifting thru them, align your heart and your mind. You're the only one that can decide what is right for you.

    @Megs2,

No one knows your situation but you. So when haters say just lose the weight, put them in their place but be nice. They are not in your body and they don't know what you go through and what you've tried. Being overweight or obese is a mentally and physically disabling condition. I only have 30lbs to lose but that doesn't mean I'm insane. My stomach only gets full after I've eaten too damn much. If I don't fill the gap I have hunger pains. You may be the same way - who knows. So what is a smart person to do who doesn't get full? Cut your stomach in half to eat less. It was a simple decision for me.

Everyone of us comes to this decision from a unique perspective. Our own. I was a thin and fit person for many years. At one point I did lose about 60 and kept it off for a long time. I went through a devastating experience. My way of coping was with food. The weight came on fast and furiously. The last 50 over a 2 year period. So, for me, I wouldn't have had it. Again, that doesn't mean I think anyone is insane. Not at all. Obviously I could not lose my weight without. But I know some really neat people who have lost that much and more without surgery and have been successful at keeping it off. I love this sleeve. It's the best gift I've ever given to myself. I knew that I had done everything I could. Only you can decide that.
Just wanted to be clear that I would never call anyone insane. Never.... As one of the comments said, "You have support here..." that's the truth. Blessings as you decide.

I can tell you at almost 6 mos post op YES it is worth it. I was 203 and now 155 lbs I feel so much better. I like you have done every diet out there practically and last doing HCG injections. Every time I would lose weight I would gain back double what I lost so with that being said 203lbs was my highest ever. I feel a lot more in control now that I have been sleeved. I feel more energetic and no more aches, pains or bloating. So worth it in my opinion

    That's just it raycharles,
The weight lost varies per person and how you eat after.. there's a % of "excess "weight thats supposed to be lost.. and the weight can be regained if abused. So it's no miracle cure.
I too wish I could have seen the future.. would have done this a long time ago. From a health safety point tho, it's not advised to have the surgery with too low a bmi without co morbidities. Maybe the concern is Loosing too much. Dunno
Happy sleeving. Glad I have mine.

You can expect with the sleeve to lose 60% of your extra weight (on average). There are formulas on line to help you figure it out, obesity coverage is one of them.
