question on straw use

I was wondering the reason we are not suppose to use straws? I thought it was becasue of the air and caausing bubble in the tummy, yet someone last night told me it stretches your stomach. Any iteas?

My Dr in MX suggests using straws- to better sip. It's one of those "not every Dr is the same things"

I only recently tried using a straw. It helped me get in more liquid than not using one. Of course I sipped tiny sips. I will ask my doc again at next visit. My stomach would hurt if I drank regularly even a sip at a time. Hmm.Not sure.

At my last support group meeting the bariatric nurse told us no straws ever due to the amount of air you inhale at the very beginning before getting the liquid. If you put your straw in a drink and put the straw to your mouth there is an amount of air that is getting into your stomach. I don't know that it ruins the stomach or stretches it but when my surgeon says no - I do not go there lol Good Luck to you

Using straws helped me get the fluid in and I gulp in LESS air than without a straw. Every doctor is different.

My doc was pro-straws for training you into sipping instead of gulping. I wasn't a huge fan. Just do what feels physically best for you.
