    Default Anxious

Hello All I am seriously considering the gastric sleeve as opposed to the bypass because my BFF had the gastric and had so many complications and the excess skin is what's freaking me out . I'm not looking for a overnight change something gradual will suffice. I am currently 230 lbs and would love to lose 50-90 lbs and overall be healthy and adopt healthy eating habits as well. I would appreciate any feedback and encouragement.

I was anxious too, but got the sleeve on 11/4 and it's the BEST thing I've ever done. I was 225 at my largest and now down to 155. No more plus sizes and my knees don't hurt any more Good luck in your decision.

I was the same as you, I didn't want such a dramatic weight loss for lots of reasons, and voiced that to my surgeon. In the end
he decided to give me a man sleeve more than a woman so I can eat a little more and my weight loss isn't dramatic...im well stoked!!! nobody has even noticed the difference in how much I eat...because ive lost weight im saying im cutting back on portion sizes))still enjoy food and love life but not too restricted that would of demented me!!!

I didn't have to put much thought in the choice of surgeries. I knew I didn't want the band because I had seen other people struggle with it. The idea of the bypass turned me off because of the inability to absorb nutrients from the food. I knew a lady that had the bypass and then found out a few months later she had cancer. It was really tough for her to receive chemotherapy and not be absorbing nutrients from the little bit of food she was able to eat.

Thank God the story has a happy ending, she battled the cancer and is now in total remission.

My point is that the gastric sleeve seemed to be safest and had the best chance of taking me to the successful point I want to reach.

I did a lot of research first.

I can tell you that you are in great hands with Dr. Holover. He is wonderful. I had no complications and the scars healed very quickly. I didn't have that much pain either. He takes his time and does a good job. I'm told there are things you can do for the extra skin before resorting to surgery. I'm not there yet. Have faith in Dr. Holover, he is the very best.

How are you doing? Are you scheduled for surgery yet? Have you met with Dr. Holover?

Hi Missy our weights aren't that far off each other. I was going to do the bypass at first but after discussing it with my doctor he felt that the slightly slower loss would be in my best interest. I have a couple of dear friends that have had the bypass and they did very well without complications ( except for their gall bladders which oddly had to come out the same week lol)

Depending on your age will depend on how your skin will do. The younger the better but you will probably have excess no matter what.
I wish you luck while you make this choice.
