Thank you for clearing this one up for me (it seems our surgeons pretty much have the same philosophy
Yes, I depended on the protein shots quite a bit. Purchased a BUNCH of powder mixes... sadly to find out they do not mix clear and were not acceptable for the clear liquid phase. Am over 3 months out and still drinking them, LOL! Mostly because I find if I want any kind of veggies, I have to drink some of my protein. When I try to get in all my protein with solids, there is certainly no room for any vegetables at all. It works for me. Some people get tired of the protein drinks, but I have such an assortment (honestly 12 different types), that I never have the same kind 2 days in a row. Having the variety helps.

If you look at my blog entries, I did a whole series on protein drinks. Most were Syntrax, but I described in detail about how they mixed, tasted (some with both water or 1% milk.) I tried to answer all the questions that I couldn't find anywhere. Hope they are helpful!

I have been using Unjury since my surgery and love it. I have the chocolate and unflavored and use it every day. I put the unflavored in broth and cannot taste it unless the soup is too hot. I love the chocolate in shakes and smoothies.

As far as the chicken soup protein powder goes it's worth noting that just one scoop supplies a wopping 30% of your daily recommended sodium intake. That's a huge amount of salt in a product that touts itself as being a "medical" product. Also it clumps at temps of 140 degrees and above ... 140 degrees is not hot it's only warm. In the early post surgery days most of us can only eat/drink at a very slow pace. This chicken soup product gets cold long before you can get it down. That's my two cents worth!

I really liked the chocolate flavor, just ordered the vanilla, haven't tried the chicken broth. I liked syntrax a lot also.

Jane have you used any other chicken soup protein product that does not have a huge amount of sodium?

Because I bought a bigger sized Unjury chicken broth protein powder I have had to figue out how to use it (despite it's high sodium content). I usually add a teaspoon or two to a bowl of home-made soup once it has cooled down to under the magic 140 degrees. This adds extra protein and way less salt - it also gives a flavor boost to the soup. You can also add it to a low sodium tetra box chicken broth if you are into just drinking straight broth but again you need to do it when the broth is at the correct temperature.

I suggest getting a coffee warmer -- a little electric warming plate you can sit your mug on. I got one for home and one for the office. You can also use a candle warmer.

I believe it was member Truffles who recommended getting a nice children's stoneware set like the one at Ikea for $10. I'm going to pick one up on Monday while I'm near Ikea. The smaller plates and bowls should fit nicely on the warmer and keep your food warm while it takes a lot longer to eat than when we wolfed down our food pre-sleeve.

You may want to experiment with the temperature. Someone on another forum said she makes a slurry with the protein and warm water before adding it to hot water and it never clumps or curdles. This way you can have soup that's hotter than 140 F degrees.

The office I go through recommends unjury and gave me some samples. I have tried both the strawberry and chocolate but they did not seem to mix very well in milk. Any suggestions to get a smoother mix?

Yes, EAS AdvanEdge Carb Control. It's ready mixed and has 17g of protein. It's the next recommendation on my dietitian's list. It tastes good and you could buy them in Walmart for approx. $5 for a box of four.
