Has anyone gotten pregnant right before surgery and if so how long after the baby was the wait before surgery?

I am not sure but I may be pregnant , my husband and I tried for 2 years and I decided that I would have the surgery and we will have a baby next year, well my EGD and final appointment is 2/7/2014 and then I will be submitted for approval and guess what....I am 5 days late, so though I tested negative on a OTC test, still not sure because I have always tested negative on OTC test. I am a PhD student but apparently the simplest test in the world is the one test I flunk. I still very much want my surgery but id I find that I am pregnant, I want to know how long after childbirth must I wait if I find that I am indeed pregnat before I can go through with my gastric sleeve?

I do know they ask you over and over again right before surgery when your last cycle was. They also do a pg test as well. But you may suggest they draw your blood before your surgery too. Just a thought.

Yes I am planning to try to find out before my EGD next week because wouldn't that be dangerous to be sedated with child?

If you are pregnant, they may cancel your EGD. I was required to have a urine pregnancy test done prior to EGD and my surgery even though I have an IUD. They test all females prior to procedures, at least at my hospital. If the test comes up positive, they don't proceed.

You ought to find out ASAP if you are pregnant now or not. Have you taken a urine test at home? Do that, maybe get a blood test done through your doctor, and proceed from there.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I missed the part of your post when you said that you already did the urine test. I would get a blood test done asap.

Maybe they can do it at an urgent care center near you?

Thanks, as hard as we tried before I am really hoping stress or my thyroid is the culprit for this late missed/period, even though the only time I have had a late/missed period in the past was due to pregnancy.

I had steroid injections in my back on 12/19/13, 1/2/14, and 1/20/14 and I just read that it can caused missed periods so this may be my issue but I am going to go see the doctor when I get off work to be certain.

I went yesterday and th etest was negative so I am still on schedule to have my EGD so I can get approved...YAY!!!

I feel your pain, that's why I have an appointment in the morning for depo. My husband is in his prime so you know what that means. Most research advises patients to wait at least 2 years before getting pregnant. Either way children are a blessing and good luck to whatever comes next.
