Heading to see Dr. Ramos-Kelly this week...will my cell phone "roam"???

Taking my Mom for surgery with Dr. Kelly on Thursday and wondering if my T-Mobile cell will be roaming. Does anyone have experience with this? I called T-Mobile and they charge $1.49 per minute for calls. Eeeekkkk!!!! If we are close enough to a T-Mobile tower, then it should be fine.

Advice please! Pre-paid cell perhaps??

Also--what does the companion do while the patient is resting or in surgery?

When your mom booked her surgery, did she go through Trish at Dr. Kellys office or a brooker? They have a phone that they will let you use while in the hospital to call your family. Trish also will take you shopping if you want to go. And if you have a broker they to will arrainge for you to use a phone while in the hospital. When you arrive at the airport you can call them to pick you up, I have verizon and its 99 a min to use my phone, or 25 cents to text. Don't know about T-mobile. The hospitla rooms have a bed for the companion. you can also take a taxi around town, I hear its very inexpensive. When do you leave to go home? I have surgery on Monday and my husband will be with me and he is going to be bored out of his mind!! for two days, till we get to the hotel.

We booked through lighterme.com (Sandy) and I haven't heard anything about cell phones. My phone will be $.35 per text (outgoing) and $1.49 per minute. We will be at the hospital on Thursday and Friday nights and then off to the Lucerna hotel for Sat-Monday. Our flight home is late Monday night....so we will miss each other! Did you upgrade to the Lucerna hotel? It was only $44 for both nights and it looks gorgeous.

Are you packing gatorade, jello, and soup? Mom read somewhere that it was a good idea. She also read that you should take some bandages, gauze, and tape.

ok i work for tmobile.. and, if you are in Mexico.. you will be charged for roaming for ANY air time you use. SO any calls you place, receive or any voicemail you listen to. If you are going to use your phone i would only use it in emergencies and check your voicemail from a landline if you can. You also have the option of getting your phone unlocked and putting a mexican cell phone co. sim card in it (prepaid).

I will be at the Lucerna on Sat and Sunday. so we may just see each other!! My surgery is on Monday. I spoke with another girl who had dr. kelly the other day, they gave her gatorade to sip on for her ride to the airport, they have broth in the hotel. I am packing some packets of broth and aske for boiling water and some decaf tea bags. and a few jello just in case. I wasa also told to bring gas x. do you have to fly far? I live in NC so its a very long ride for me. I plan to sit by the pool on Sat and Sun relaxing in the pool!! if you see a short chubby women, and a tall skinny guy with semi gray hair that would be me! My name is Pat. Hope to see you and talk with you both!!! I am nervous and worried, but I knw it will be fine.

I hope to see you there! That pool is already calling my name. :-) I'll be the other short, chubby woman by the pool with romance novel in hand. Mom has a walker, so she is hard to miss. We have a 3 hour flight from Houston, so it could be alot worse. Mom was able to upgrade to 1st class, lucky ducky, so it should be an easy flight for her.

Grrrrr..not liking this info! Thank you for taking the time to post. Hubby is looking into getting me a prepaid cell for the trip. Bummer.

This is a question I've been meaning to ask as well. I have Verizon. I also booked thru Trish so I understand she will allow me to use her phone and I'm guessing she will call my hubby when I'm out of surgery (I'm going alone

I'm taking my tablet, and wonder if the Lucerne Hotel has wi-fi so I can at least email after I get out of the hospital.

Yes the Hospital does have wifi so it wont be a problem to send emails. The problem will be your verizon service. First they charge roaming second it will be very hard to get service.
