I did, because I wanted to get the nutrients from the soup or jello to be absorbed. Also, it was good practice.

During the liquid stages my surgeon told me to drink as much as possible and not worry about the 30 min rule.

Soup and jello are technically liquid. For those first couple weeks you just get in what you can when you can.
