    Question Self pay. Need advice.

Hey all. I am new to this site. I am self pay b/c my insurance and DH insurance both have exclusions for wls. I meet criteria, have been to all appointments, and am ready for surgery. DH refuses to let me go to Mexico "to die on the table" so I am in need of a reasonably priced surgeon here in the US for less than $13,000. I was approved for $8000 thru care credit and I am waiting on another company. I live in CT and the prices are near $25,000. Can anyone suggest a surgeon that they have personal experience with? Info on surgery, stay, and financing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure how someone can refuse you to go to Mexico. If I'm not approved by my insurance that is where I'm heading. I think you will find lots of people on here that have had wonderful experiences in Mexico. Of course everything has risks, even doing it in the US with the most qualified surgeons. Like anything, do your research and make the right decision for you. Frankly, the right decision for me is to not die early and to have a fulfilling life and I'm not heading down that path right now.

At the end of the day I do have to live with the nut! Lol. I have researched surgeons I. mexico and my mother is supportive. Once I convince him (irritate him to death) I'm sure he will see it my way. However I am open to surgery here in the US as a valid option.

I have heard about a place in Louisiana that has a great price. I can't recall the name, but if you try googling "weight loss surgery louisiana" you might find it.

Dr Paul Wizman in Margate Florida. His staff is very professional & knowledgable. He did my sleeve last Wednesday at Northwest Medical Center which is also a great hospital with a bariatric unit & knowledgable staff.

Sorry someone is discourging you from going to Mexico but my experience was great just as for many others. It was only $4000 and noone died on the table and I ended up meeting a lot of very nice and supportive people. Sometimes you just have to put the faith in your higher power and move foward. It was well worth it. Just in case you change your mind I went to Dr Almanza in Mexico at Jerusalum Hospital. Look at the many reviews on the internet about it and you will see how great of an experience many has had. Good luck!

Tell him your changes of dying from obesity goes up everyday that he makes you wait. Good Luck with your choice. Mexico was so far better than anything I have ever experienced in the states. I have been in the hospital with surgeries several times. Oh well The Doc in my town was 17,000

I did self pay with a Dr in New Iberia Louisiana. You pay for your pre op testing and your hotel and 9,800 for the surgery and all the other fees involved. I have been very pleased with my care. He does the surgery as an outpatient and accepts low risk patients. Wishing you all the best finding the right situation for you and your family.

I did not go to Mexico, but dying on the table is a chance you always take when having any kind of surgery, & I told my family who were concerned, that If I die on the table I would want people to know that I was happy trying to get done what "I" wanted to, rather than live my empty life in my 325lb body. I can't count on both hands all on this site that i've come across that have had surgery in Mexico, and they all seem very happy... Im guessing your dh is your significant other, lol.... maybe search this site for those sleeve in Mexico and let him view them. Best of luck!

I had my surgery in Hickory, NC and the cost was about $20,000. The surgeon's fee was $5 and the hospital was a little over $14. They told me that if they had been billing my insurance company, the cost would have been $56,000. wowsa.

I always ask about a cash discount because that is how I pay for big things and she responded: that is the cash discount. haha

    buena suerte!

Dr Thomas Borland in New Iberia Louisiana was 9800.00. He is two hrs outside New Orleans. Does the surgery as an outpatient and you stay in a local hotel where he visits you. I came home day after surgery. No problems or issues at all. It was a great experience:-)
