    Default Eating/diet

Just wondering (not that i am planning to go out and eat a big mac ) but … my stomach can't take anymore than a few bites/ounce of anything anyways.... so is it really necessary that we MUST watch everything we eat????? or does our new sleeve prohibit overindulging ?

    i just got sleeved 12/30 ( down 20 lbs since pre-op liquid diet )

For the first few weeks while your stomach staple line is healing do not eat anything that isn't approved by your surgeon. Now with that said why would you want to go back eating anything and everything? Even if it is in small quantities the fast food and junk food isn't nutritious enough and never will be. For the rest of your life your meal should be protein first, then veggie/fruit, and then carbs if and only if there is still room for it in your tiny stomach.
My weight at start of my 2 week pre-op diet was 232
My weight on the morning of surgery was 221

For me what I eat now is more about nutrition. Sure we could probably eat junk and still lose weight (at least at first) but we wouldn't be getting enough nutrients and would become very sick. I don't eat healthy food now because it's low in calories or fat, I eat it because it is more nutritious.

Since we are only going to be eating small amounts we need to make every bite count. I could eat three cookies or I can eat 2 oz of Turkey and a bite of broccoli. Why not choose what is healthy??? That is the whole reason we got the surgery. You could probably loose weight for awhile eating junk but it will catch up to you. We need to use this first 6 months to a year to re-train our bodies into healthy. Make every bite a healthy while our pouch is restricting us.....

Nutrition is by far the most important thing to focus on. We don't only need to focus on nutrition for weight loss but also for our general health. If you follow posts on here lots of people post about issues that they are having that generally can be attributed to nutrition. Others who stick to the plan report great success with weightloss and very few negative effects. We all have made serious choices to have this surgery. Why would we want to eat in a way that makes us fail?

You have lost 20 lbs so far by following the program. You are only 10 days out. As your stomach heals and you are able to add new nutritious foods to your diet I am sure that you can find a new normal that is not only nutritious but delicious!

Establishing good eating patterns is vital. teaching yourself to eat slow and chew thoroughly are important as well as building a nutritious lifelong diet. Avoid developing bad habits because they can definitely come back to haunt you later as your stomach heals and you can eat more.

    Hey AJ,

    Great question...
Eveyone of us got fat for one reasone or another!
Me I was an emotional eater and gave up on myself. I loved desserts and fast food!!
I promised myself that when I had this surgery I was going to give it my all to change everything. Not only for myself but for my husband and 2 teenage daughters who I have taught some pretty bad habits too.

    1. There is no "cokes" in my house...we have lots of water and crystal light and tea
    2. We plan all our meals...as a family so everyone gets to pick something they want to eat that week. This is the hard part about our lifestyle change. You have to plan ahead and don't rely on that drive thru any longer.
    3. Exercise is key! It makes you feel good
    4. This is your last chance to make things right....balls to the wall baby!
    5. There are plenty of new healthier options to chose from then that burger or cookies. Not saying you can never eat junk again....it's more of a challenge yourself not to kinda thing! If I want to eat cake, I will eat a bite. Then I think dang I'm gonna have to so extra walking to lose those calories
    6. Myfitnesspal app is awesome! It tracks all your food and exercise. It even has a bar scanner on it!

Here are a couple websites to help ya out with recipe ideas:

Here are some websites for meal planning:

Am I missing anything fellow sleever?

Thank you all so much. I think a few of you misunderstood me. But my question was answered. I would never go thru all this to be back where I was. It IS all about new healthy habits. My question really was more about counting everything. My understanding is as long as long as I get my protein , watch my fat/calories and exercise I will be fine.
P.S anyone know of any good recipe sites?

Here are my thoughts on this. I know me and I know I am not going to eat "perfect" for the rest of my life. It's not realistic. Having this surgery doesn't fix boredom eating, etc. I have to work on that. I does limit how much I can eat, and if I eat poorly, I don't feel well. If I overeat - by the slightest amount - I don't feel well.

That being said. When I don't eat a balanced "healthy" diet my weight loss is slow. This is why I"m not at goal yet. I have to control what I eat. Initially I was all gung how and couldn't imagine anything not organic, whole food, perfect crossing my lips. Yeah, not so much. It's still a battle -just a much easier battle and now I'm armed with heavy artillery.

    Starting weight for lap-band = 252
    miserable 5 years later
Starting weight for VSG = 229
    Pre-op weight = 219
