Medical ID Bracelets

Okay so I'm going to get one but I'm wondering what do you put on it? I had one when I was young but don't remember what was on it. I have dizzy spells and I'm worried that I may have one when I'm alone or worse so I just want one to be on the safe side. I was thinking of putting VSG on it just so they know I have had the surgery. I have seen some really cute ones too. I'm wondering what you have on yours and where did you get it from?

Great suggestion....!!!! I too get dizzy spells and suffer from low blood pressure. Incredible way to share - just in case.

I was told to indicate that you have had gastric surgery (you do not want them (if need be) to intubate you the way they intubate people who have not had gastric surgery. If they do they'll mess up the sleeve with the tubing. **again this is what I was told by the bariatric nurse**

Right now, I have one--I have a Medi-port (due to chemotherapy treatments I've had), I'm also thinking about adding VSG.

Yes me too I have really low blood pressure and my Dr said this is something I should look into getting. also she said the same thing about the tubing that it could hurt me more then help me if it is used.

They have some cute ones on Laurenshope.com but they are a bit pricey. I make bracelets so I really only need the ID Tags.

Thats a good idea. I'd like to do one too but I dont want non medical people to know I have a sleeve.

Our instructions say that the bracelet should include:
SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY
NO BLIND NG TUBES

Marvinator you don't have to wear a bracelet - you can do a dog tag one. I agree with you on not wanting the world to know but if its a choice where they puncture your stomach or you're wearing something to identify your surgery - well that ones completely up to you

Plus your info is on the inside of the tag so all they see is the medical logo.

I totally understand but if for some reason (God forbid) your airway is obstructed - are you going to care if an EMT worker knows or not? Please give this some serious thought.

Yes indeed it is. If he's worth his salt he will tell you the same thing otherwise if there is a medical emergency where you can not communicate what you have had done and they go to intubate you you're gonna have far worse issues (this was told to me by the gastric OR nurse who heads up our support groups)
