Be careful if you get sleeved in Mexico ( would not recommend it)

I got sleeved in Mexico nov 5 , developed a leak 3 weeks later , since I went Mexico the American doctors did not want to touch me , only reason they did is the leak was life threatening , then there was the issue of whether my insurance would pay , I spent 11 days in the hospital had 3 surgeries and the bills are over 150000$ . I could do it over I would pay the extra to get it done in America

So sorry to hear your struggles. I feel awful that you have such high medical bills and the trauma you went through. I have read so many good results out of Mexico surgeries, but I guess things like this can happen if even the best surgeons are having an off day. I'm sorry it has cost you so much. I am glad you are okay though, and that even with the medical bills, you got fixed up. Money comes and goes but there is only one of you. I'll definitely pray for you and pray that from here on out your health will be smooth sailing and that something can be done about your medical bills.

Yes, please share the name of your surgeon and how this leak was discovered 3 weeks later. This is something that I am also paranoid about and would really appreciate knowing more.

Funny you just joined to post that message. I have a very good friend that was sleeved in Conway SC just before Christmas and now she is in the hospital with a leak. I went to Mexico and had not one issue. You can mislead people that need this so badly with statements like this. It happens anywhere you go. Who ever reads this I really hope you understand with any surgery things can happen or NOT happen.

A leak 3 weeks after surgery Is probably not the surgeons fault. I simply would not do ththisis surgery in The US bc of the problems I see.

However, you have a very valid point about after care in The states. If something happens you could be screwed. I hope you are feeling beater

I'm not putting down any Dr from Mexico , I'm more upset at the way the American dr will treat you , they will assume it was done in a back alley
Dr Alverez was the dr who did my sleeve, I think he is fine dr and has great staff and hospital , he has also sleeved my wife and 3 other people we know with no problems, so I don't know if was his fault , my fault or just bad , but I got leak anyway.

The leak will take at least 6 weeks to heal , with nothing to eat or drink in that time frame.

Hello, I am sorry you had to be admitted in a hospital in the US. But I think it's very unfair to make such a general statement. I had my surgery with Dr. Sergio Quinones in Tijuana on January 12, 2013 and it was the best decision I could have made. I would and do strongly recommend Dr. Quinones to anyone who is considering weight loss surgery in Mexico. Dr. Quinones only performs 3 surgeries daily, they are performed in a private hospital. The more I did my research I came to realize that Dr. Quinones was my best option in Tijuana. Just curious did you drink some soda or other carbonated beverage, or eat a loaf of bread, or do anything else to blow out your unhealed staple line?
And if so, what does Mexico have to do with that?
How would your bills from this strange complication 3 weeks later have been different if you were cash-paying in the United States vs in Mexico?
I am trying to learn, really.. just curious how this all happened and why Mexico is to blame. So many go there and have success, life-saving success is no joke... For some people it makes sense to go to Mexico and get a great deal, it's called Medical Tourism. You seem to have an agenda to talk them out of going, why?

I had a similar experience with an American doctor who would not take out the stiches because my surgery was done in Mexico. What an ass; I sure was treated better in Mexico than was here!!!

I do hope you have lost weight though...let us know

why didnt you just go back to mexico to get it fixed ..sounds like it took some time to get the doctors here to fix it
