    Default Planning for post-op exercise

I'll be having my surgery in three weeks (OMG. Three weeks) and I want to plan for exercise. I have an elliptical, so once I'm cleared for everything, I'll happily use that. However, it's Michigan... I think it might have gotten up to twenty degrees today, and all the sidewalks are covered in ice. Until I can use my elliptical (how long will that be?) I need to exercise inside somewhere. Money is tight, so I'd like to avoid purchasing a gym membership, especially since I have equipment at home I am just waiting to use. What should I do? We don't have any free, indoor tracks nearby. Hmm. Thoughts?

A popular form of exercise up here in the winter is mall walking. Indoor shopping centres provide warm safe places that you can walk for free.

You might be able to use an video that you can go along with. There are lots of them out there.

The biggest loser workout can get you started. All you need is a TV and DVD player with some room to exercise.

The videos seem to be better for me since I want to finish the entire workout and it hits more areas of the body. It seems to keep my interest more (and make me plenty sore!)

My exercise therapist had me doing chair exercises until I was cleared to do more. So she had given me some ideas and one of then was to search "chair zumba" and "10 minute chair exercises" on YOUTUBE. It worked for me

Look up bodyrock.tv online or on facebook. AMAZING workouts, can be done at home, and usually only take 12-15 minutes. I have done them, and they are legit. I didn't last long, partially cause I am overweight, but I did see a drop in weight the little time i did them.
Been sitting at my personal goal for a year now.

I love running and am trying to get better at it. Lately, I have been doing TRX, which is a resistance workout with military straps that uses your own body weight and gravity to develop lean muscle. I'm addicted to it!

I started immediately on my treadmill, slow at first then building to 3.7....then I moved to the elliptical after one week of the treadmill...I do the weight loss on add a level every couple of times. The elliptical burns almost double the calories and doesn't seem to be as boring. I think because it moves the arms at the same time. I am not released to do full workouts until 8 weeks post op. Not sure if that is normal or not.

What about a Walk Away the Pounds w/ Leslie Sansone (sp?) DVD for the first few weeks until you're released to use the elliptical machine? You might even want to check with your local library and see if they have any walking DVDs that you can check out for a week or two for free.
